If Kohli were to retire today, whom would you consider to be a better batsman?

Kholi is the greatest ever one day international batsman, in test matches even kholi is ahead of Laxmam.

If picking a no 5 for an ATG Indian side (assuming a top 4 of Gavaskar, Sehwag, Dravid, & Tendulkar is set in stone) there are probably 5 candidates to bat at no 5:

Hazare
Vengsakar
Azharuddin
Laxman
Kohli

Despite his struggles for the past 2-3 years, I'd still pick Kohli with Hazare as 2nd choice. Not much between Vengsakar, Azhar, and VVS.

Its weird, I never see those people who were commenting that late career slumps don’t affect their rating of players in Kohli discussions.
Are you just making **** up out of nowhere lol? Laxman has 3 votes.

I rate Kohli much higher than Laxman regardless of his decline and I'm the biggest vvs fanboy on the forum.

Kohli is clearly a case of someone who late career slump has affected how he is rated to most rational cricket fans. Just because he won't dip lower than Laxman doesn't mean his standing hasn't fallen.

At his peak, he was approaching Gavaskar if not Sachin. At the beginning of his decline, he was going below Dravid. Now he may be slipping behind Sehwag.

You’ve said this multiple times, but no one has actually said to completely ignore late career slumps. It’s only for when comparing players with completely different career lengths.
Some of them did, literally saying they rated Ponting as the player in 2007, some only meant it for different career lengths being compared.

My rating of Kohli hasn’t changed at all. At the end of 2019. I rated him as better than Sehwag and worse than Dravid. I still rate him the same way. Anyone who was comparing Kohli to Tendulkar in 2018 is an idiot.

Nobody would say that Kohli was Tendulkar's level, but that if he continued in that sort of form, the comparison would be merited.

Kohli until end of 2019 was definitely ahead of Dravid for me.

Nah VVS pisses that one. Considerably better player, especially if you take into account how underrated an ODI player he was
I used to think Pujara may have a chance of getting to that level but yeah nah definitely not as good. Overseas record has always been much worse.

at that point he had very strong series in SA and England one of which was his boogey country with his boogeyman bowling in prime form. there was a legit claim that he was finally approaching Tendulkar levels

Thing is vvs was forced to open at the start of career, position he clearly hated. icbf to look it up but he clearly wasted first 3-4 years of his career because of that.

Also, during his decline, he randomly pulled out inning of a genius once in a while (Durban 96 for example.). Compare that to Kohli who looks completely hopeless these days.
