Alzarri Joseph averages 35 with the ball , how I don't know he's got all the attributes , pace , height , great fitness , decent seam movement..I'd gladly have him in the Proteas set up just needs the right guidance

If chase is gonna bowl this straight/occasionally down leg line and just let pietersen work every ball should he have a leg slip in? Make him question the shot a bit, the occasional ball is bouncing a bit.

In an ideal world. Sometimes you have to make do with what you have. And yes it would be much nicer having Klaasen at 7 with Rickelton at 6... but you are opening up yourself to a world of hurt if one of your 4 fast bowlers break down.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the XI this morning. Doesn't he usually bat 3 in tests?
Up till now he has batted 3 for SA. He has been batting 3/4 at FC level.

He also bats 3 domestically. Dropping him down to 4 in order to accommodate De Zorzi would have made sense, but coming in after Bavuma is a bit odd.

De Zorzi is someone they've had their eye on for some time. He's been in good form this season, including a triple century. It would probably have been a choice between him and Rickelton. I couldn't say why they opted for De Zorzi, although one reason could be that he usually opens, so will probably be a long-term replacement for Elgar, but maybe they want to try to ease him into test cricket by debuting him at one down.

Maharaj was left out because spinners usually don't do much at Centurion. So they've picked Muthusamy because he's better with the bat.

They regard Klaasen as a better keeper than Verreynne, who isn't in the squad because Rickelton can act as an emergency backup.
Klaasen overrated as a batter, Kyle is better imho and if they just going on batting than rickleton.

What a terrible shot from Klaasen , does anybody in this team know how to value their wicket ? What an embarrassing collapse this is.

That's the thing, they're not going on batting. Klaasen may be the worst of the three with the bat, but they reckon that's offset by being better behind the stumps.

He's only averaged 15 this season and I would say his bowling is his stronger discipline, so not sure we can call him a batting all-rounder.

He can bat these stats say batting 7 bowling 4 or 5. like mulder except mulder should be a better 7.

And it's still an improvement as Muthusamy is a much better choice than the other guys they've picked at 7 of late.

Mulder is good enough to try bat at 5 or 6 and have the keeper bat 7.imho

Don't see what is bad about Kyles keeping? Shukri said he prefers klaasens batting.
