Why is roston chase still in this team? Calling him a #7 is generous, particularly on recent form, he can't seem to catch the ball to save his life and he averages 45 with the ball while going at 3 and a half an over.

West Indies have used 5 bowlers in the first 16 overs , trying too hard..Mayers showed the way how to bowl on this wicket , nothing too fancy these aren't great batsmen they will give you chances if you are consistent .

De Zorzi is someone they've had their eye on for some time. He's been in good form this season, including a triple century. It would probably have been a choice between him and Rickelton. I couldn't say why they opted for De Zorzi, although one reason could be that he usually opens, so will probably be a long-term replacement for Elgar, but maybe they want to try to ease him into test cricket by debuting him at one down.

Maharaj was left out because spinners usually don't do much at Centurion. So they've picked Muthusamy because he's better with the bat.

They regard Klaasen as a better keeper than Verreynne, who isn't in the squad because Rickelton can act as an emergency backup.

Verreynne's exclusion is totally ****ing insane IMO. I can understand the rest of the decisions even if I don't entirely agree with them all.

I'm happier with Muthusamy than Maharaj even if I'm not a huge believer in him because I'm glad they understand Jansen at 7 shouldn't be a thing. It's a really important step forward for this side to acknowledge that the bloke batting 7 needs to be able to bat. I personally would've gone with Mulder+Maharaj for Muthusamy+Coetzee but I can see the rational for picking the specialist seamer and having the spinner as fifth bowler instead of the opposite, given the venue.

It is a 7/4 split Muthusamy is a number 4 or 5 batsmen in provincial, just so happens his bowler is coming off as well he is 100% a batting allrounder.
He's only averaged 15 this season and I would say his bowling is his stronger discipline, so not sure we can call him a batting all-rounder.

Think targets might also have come into De Zorzi playing ahead of Rickelton. Not that De Zorzi doesn't deserve a cap given his form this season Rickelton's FC average is Bradmanesque and just on form you would have thought they would go for RR.

South African cricket is like a blindfolded man trying to hit a piñata in the dark. You know he's swinging for the fences, but he's more likely to hit himself in the face than the ball. And just like the piñata, their chances of success seem to be hanging by a thread
