*Official* England in NZ 2023

Feel for the guy at least on the bowling front, as a specialist bowler he's being called upon to do a job that's above his station. Batting wise he just doesn't seem to give himself a chance most of time, yesterday for example was the perfect opportunity to get some relatively easier runs against a tiring attack. Can see the rationale for him as a no.7 though.
He's not a bad bat but you're right, he doesn't give himself time because he came through his performances in t20s, went really well with that approach in one dayers and tried to carry it to test cricket. To be fair to him he came up against in form bowlers, tough conditions here. Scored some good runs in Pakistan and England. Bowling is reasonable as he showed in Pakistan but needed spin friendly conditions. Root took to him who's probably one of the best batsman vs spin currently.

I'd rather they give him couple more tests vs Sri Lanka to see how he goes. Perhaps he should bat like no 5 his usual spot in domestic cricket.

This shuffling of order to accommodate is not working anymore. If they can't pick him then get Ajaz in. He's still the best spinner in the country.

Would be a very useful series to try out new bowlers
It would be - but I’d give him the option for his service/pulling us the F out of the fire.

Maybe rotate Henry or Southee, or play 4 seamers and give 2 newbies a go there.

Yeah not many in recent times I'd think. England lost at Adelaide in 06/07 iirc, and Aus scraped a tie vs India going way back to 86 (they actually declared twice in that game, which pretty much led to TOTAB only ever declaring at customs from then on).
Clarke declaring at 239/9 overnight on Day 1 in the 2012 Hyd test and India going on to score 500 plus and win by an innings.

One last Simpson’s meme:

Well Wagner had done it,

The Blackcaps had won it,

With Skyliner dooming all the while,

Slippy’s posting made Athlai’s blood boil,

As TH lay passed out on the barroom tile...

We're talkin' C-Dub...

From the Mount to the Basin.

Talkin' C-Dub...

ashley bach and Daemon.

Burgey and his mastery of the law.

Would be sad if this was Wagners last, but tbh I wasn't completely horrified by Tickners go in the first test. Genuine speed, just didn't appear to do much with the ball(only saw highlights though)
