Is Boult a realistic option to come back into the test team? I believe he hasn't accepted a contract (presumably to maximise his earning potential before he retires) but with Jamieson injured he'd be a handy inclusion for NZ right now.
No, and I'd prefer if we debuted a mid 20s bowler v Sri Lanka rather than pick a 33 year-old stopgap who won't play against Aus & SA next summer.

That wicket fell exactly as I acknowledged the sedateness of this start. Just a nothing heave. Think there's a much better batsman in Robinson.

Big day for a lot of players today re the SL series:
Bracewell obviously, and Wagner (if he doesn't plan to retire/if the selectors haven't already decided not to pick him). Hopefully commonsense prevails with Wags and he's gone.

Nathan Smith and Ravindra with the ball, and G Philips with the bat in Ot - Well.

Perhaps Shipley and Sodhi if they have to win the game for Canterbury with the bat.
One game is not going to make any difference to Phillips, Ravindra or Nathan Smith. If BCs wanted them they would have had them there already. You won't see any changes to the SL series squad. Changes can be expected in a year's time.

Well that's crazy and not fair for them or the next coach. Far better to give them experience against Sri Lanka than coming in cold against the Australian and South African pace attacks.

Stead will not take any risk vs SL. He has not had much success in tests over the last year or so. He will stick with the same squad and hope to win two test matches to finish his test coaching. He wouldn't give a damn about who the next coach is or what he's left with to work.

Oh dear. And Duckett was the one looking reasonably good. Sounds like the ball was there to be hit but the execution left plenty to be desired.

Here we go..... Get Root and we are on our way  No matter who you are and what the results in the past have been like but the first hour of any day in a test match is challenging.
