Flower played some sensational innings against very good attacks that left a big impression on me. He's significantly better than Pietersen imo, though I do rate KP highly.think pietersen is quite a lot more proven than flower tbh. obviously not flowers fault he didn't get to play as much as he could have.
but yeah, pietersen, greig and flower quite a bit clear of the rest.
People are still reluctant to rate him properly - if at all, considering the shortness of his career and lack of overseas success so far.Surprising lack of love for the bloke with over 3,000 test runs at a tick under 60.
Pietersen for me though. Huge talent, sadly a huger head of the old dick.
Tbf Matty Prior also scored more test runs at a higher average than Bradley-John.I'm surprised Watling hasn't had any votes though. He's one of the top 10 (perhaps top 5 keeper - batsmen of all time).
Perhaps he might've if Flower had only batted and not kept.
I know. I also remember his great knock 10 years ago at Eden Park. Much worse with the gloves though.Tbf Matty Prior also scored more test runs at a higher average than Bradley-John.
First part of his career, yes, but I don't remember his glovework being questioned when he made his comeback.I know. I also remember his great knock 10 years ago at Eden Park. Much worse with the gloves though.
Yes, but Watling was clearly the best in the world with the gloves.First part of his career, yes, but I don't remember his glovework being questioned when he made his comeback.
I'd put Gooch ahead of KP. Gooch was the best batsman in the world from about 1990 until Lara went nuts (93?), while KP was never the best in the world.Flower v KP slightly more competitive than I thought it would be. Pietersen is pretty well respected on here. Definitely the highest rated England bat in the time between Boycott and Root.
Marnus isn't even close to that level and he never will beDefinitely not ready to place Marnus above Flower, KP or Grieg. Needs a good few more overseas hundreds first.
I find it hard to put Gooch, Pietersen, Gower and Thorpe in order.I'd put Gooch ahead of KP. Gooch was the best batsman in the world from about 1990 until Lara went nuts (93?), while KP was never the best in the world.
All very good and hard to order. Cook too. Stewart was also very good when allowed to play as a specialist opener who didn't keep.I find it hard to put Gooch, Pietersen, Gower and Thorpe in order.
Will be interesting to see how Marnus vs Conway ends up. Marnus might play 100 tests compared with 40 for Conway, so will win on longevity.KP
