Best overseas hundred in India in the last 25 years

I think that Gilly innings is being shortchanged. Harbi was pretty much in the same ATG form he would have in the rest of the series but Gilly clobbered him against the run of play.

But would rate Anwar innings higher. Second innings plus nobody else scored.
Whatttt?

The way you are describing him, looks like Harbhajan was part of the '15 consecutive test wins' team prior to the series and also demolished Aus in that series.

Kevin Pietersen's 186 in Mumbai in 2012 for me.

186 in a innings score of 413.. so 45% of the runs.

England ended up winning the game to level the series at 1-1.

England then won at Eden Gardens in the 3rd test, drew the 4th... to inflict India's only home series defeat in donkey's years.

Iconic innings

They say in comms that he was originally left out of the squad.

I don't recall what this was about, but he'd scored 149 against South Africa in te last test of the summer. Oh, was the that Strauss texting series?

If so what was the reason given for him being reselected?

Yeah... was the "reconciliation period" after the texting series...

Got added to the squad after a meeting with Cook

Just looking at that scorecard. Couple of things stand out:

1. How weak England's batting looks without KP: Compton, a young Bairstow, Patel at 6.

2. India's 2nd innings. All out for 142 of which Gambhir got 65. Sehwag, Pujara, Tendulkar, Kholi, Yuvrak Singh and Dhoni all got single figures (Panesar and Swann doing the damage).

KP's century apart, Cook basically carried England's batting through the series until the last test when Trott and Bell ground out centuries on a pudding of a pitch.

For different reasons, you could put Cook's 190 in Kolkata alongside KP's Mumbai masterclass.

Wisden in 2001 Rated Saeed Anwar 188* as the 3rd Greatest Overseas Hundred in India ever. First and Second position went to a Century by Lloyd in early 80s and a double century by Bacchus in Late 70s.

Anwar's 188* also eventually helped Pakistan to reach final and defeat Sri Lanka and win Asian Test Championship.
