People get better as they play more., assuming they have promise to begin with. In a three-pronged spin attack, it is ok if one guy i.e. Sundar plays the containing role. I'm pretty sure Kuldeep will become a regular matchwinner *if* given a good stretch of game time. He and Axar should take care of most visiting sides; it's not like the quality of batting against spin worldwide will suddenly improve just because Ashwin-Jadeja are no longer in the picture.
Jadeja aint going anywhere for 5+ years.

Yeah I meant he would get better in tests, but I rate Jadeja as high as Ashwin if not higher. His bowling cannot & will not be replaced. The corollary to that is the test batting standards are also going down further, the likes of SS/Root/KW & of course Kohli are last of their gen. Most if not all of them started their FC careers when IPL was not the biggest cricket tournament. The gen after them will struggle to last 3-4 days on even mildly helpful surfaces. This is why I'm partly intrigued as to how Bassball would work in India/Oz or other harsher conditions. Because the batters are assuming they'd probably not last a day or two batting on them. So how would that transform the 5 day game?
Tests will no doubt become 4 day games, sooner rather than later. Already most games finish in 3-4 days.

Tests will have a golf like rooster, lasting Thursday to Sunday. 3 match Test series will finish over 3 weekends. Nice and easy to follow schedule! It will be a success and remain like that.

I just don't think he has the variety, control, or deep understanding of the game that Jadeja has. The harsh stereotype against Jadeja in past years of a guy who just darts the ball in at the stumps at 95km/h and relies in the pitch to play random tricks without much guile applies far more to him.

That's not to say he's bad or anything but if you gave all Jadeja's overs to Axar in this series then he results could have been quite different. I haven't been impressed with him in very favourable conditions. I was looking forward to seeing him too, see if he could really live up to that hilarious career average he built by statpadding an absolutely dismal England side. Australia hasn't been much better and yet they've still looked infinitely more comfortable against him.

I agree re: the 2 new balls thing btw. Made ODIs so much lesser as a format, just such an unnecessary change.
Axar has plenty of time to learn and develop. His batting has improved all of a sudden. I am sure his bowling will too, afterall he is in the company of two greats and will learn off them in due time. Jadeja was like him years back and look where he is now. Axar will come close to resembling Jadeja. He has the potential for sure.

I watched the last NZ test & most of the English batters will not have a prayer if they bat that way in the Ashes

Might get away with backing away or charging once or twice but no way does it hold up for 5 tests

The Kiwi attack was predominantly inexperienced/not good enough & well below the standard of Australia, India and England’s own bowlers
Bazball hasn't been tested against the best teams yet, I am also sure it is going to come crashing down just as fast as it rose. Then England will realise they will need to rein it in a bit. It will change to situational bazball. A little more flexible and toned down bazball, not just one method fits all situations kind that we are seeing right now!

I am a huge fan of Green and do think he can make a difference in this series.

But thinking that he won't have an impact is not a dumb take tbh. He is a lbw candidate to the left arm spinners and his bowling couldn't buy a wicket even in Australia against India.
It absolutely is when Green has progressed as a cricketer. He might have similar problems as other batters but Australia wouldn't be having as many selection issues to begin with if he played.

That would be a terrible idea

hayden's sweep advice would probably work best for green but he also needs experience before that plan fully begins to work

Australia have already turned him into a sweeper lmao. Before his debut he was the most uncomfortable orthodox sweeper i've ever seen and only played it when he was trying to slog. Somehow went from that to it being his most productive shot last time we toured SL. 2 of his 3 dismissals that tour also came from it so make of it what you will.

I think the advice is the least of it. It's all the preparation put in before that made it work. Didn't Hayden do his own personal boot camp prior to that series IN Indian conditions?

yes but also another camp in 1999 where he had sviaramakrishnan bowling to him while venkataraghavan coached him
