only picked players I’ve watched over the years except for pollock who I’ve seen only on you tube clips. Looking at it now I see my bias towards the great West Indian teams of the 70/80/90 the best squad of players to ever play imo. Gooch was a magnificent player of fast bowling and greenidge was a beast. Imagine if Viv had played 20/20, Chappell a maestro, Lara could hit it anywhere from anywhere and score big, pollock looked impossible to bowl to, Gilchrist even defended with power, Akram in all conditions excelled, warney the master competitor, Marshall my favourite player ever and the finest of bowlers, big Curtly always hitting the top of the bat.
This team would be incredible to watch. May I ask why you've chosen Pollock based on clips but no-one else?

Good team.
Were you deliberately avoiding current players in this side?
Good side, but Barlow instead of Jayasuriya. There are 3 leg spinners too. You might want a other optio .

You've possibly been a touch kind on Stephen Fleming not mentioning his name there.
That’s two of my all-time favourite players you’ve mentioned there… ?
Got a shortlist as below.

Stewart/Gayle
Atherton
Ian Bell
Mark Waugh/Hooper
Jayawardene/Saleem Malik
Chanderpaul/Ganguly
Boucher
Vettori
Harbhajan Singh
Ishant Sharma
Ntini
Two of my all-time favourite players in that list. ?
I'd pick Strauss instead Stewart. Stewart was a quality opener who stood up to the Windies quicks, but his average suffered when keeping (and he was a poor keeper). If you want Stewart, pick him instead of Boucher.

I'd also pick Fleming (c) instead of M Waugh. Waugh was probably the 4th best middle order bat of the 90s behind Tendulkar, Lara, and his twin bro. I'd narrowly put Mark ahead of Aravinda for the 90s.

We are not comparing nobodies here. Anyone who has played more than 100 tests is actually a good player. Just picked the worst of those. Any one in your mind better suited than Bell at 3 in that team?
Jonathon Trott. Bell didn’t bat at 3.

Just change a few names and you get a lineup full of lefties too. Davidson for Lindwall.

I'm going to post a less-than-conventional ODI XI:

1. Adam Gilchrist
2. AB de Villiers
3. Ricky Ponting
4. Paul Collingwood
5. Andrew Symonds
6. Jonty Rhodes
7. Tillakaratne Dilshan
8. Carl Hooper
9. Roger Harper
10. Heath Streak
11. Brett Lee

Average-looking XI on paper, but you might have noticed that they were all unbelievable in the field.

I firmly believe that this side would save 50-60 more runs in the field than an average ODI side if you factor in unlikely stops, the constant threat of run-outs and taking half-chances. The fact they can slog down to 11 (outfielders are fairly hard to rate) doesn't hurt, despite only having 3 frontline bowlers.

The only worry I have is who to put at backward point.
Replace Gilchrist with Gibbs and have AB take the gloves.

You don’t know a team which can beat this XI
Australia and West Indies have comfortably better ATG XIs than that. England, South Africa and India more debatable but those first two are pretty clearly non-negotiable.

When you said "can beat" originally I just thought you meant they wouldn't always lose every game. If you think that's the best national ATG XI you're absolutely nuts.

And you'd pick Sarfaraz too. Aside from the fact he can't bat when the ball moves off the straight, he can't catch either.

is probably their equal too

As a response to your post I would rank the ATG XIs in the following order

Australia
West Indies
South Africa
England - Pakistan
India
New Zealand
Sri Lanka

I even expect the overall stats of these countries to reflect this order more or less.
