I am worried about that. Surely they would've kept Duffy in the squad though.

I imagine this is why other pace ARs weren't selected:
  • Shipley – a little too unproven
  • Smith – no FC cricket this season
  • Solia – 'we know Scott K'

I've always thought it seemed pretty clear that it'd be grim times after we lost Boult Southee Taylor and Williamson. While Rachin and Conway give me some hope for our batting future, our bowling stocks looks shot.

Maybe we can put together a decent odi team for the WC in India but after that will be the end of an era for NZ cricket.

Not that race should play a part in selection the PR of picking our 3rd ever Pasifika player vs SK would have been handy. Even the PR of Van Beek (went on NZ A tour for some reason ???!!) as the grandson of Sam Guillen would have been okay.

I actually have greater concern for the batting than the bowling, at least in the medium to long term. Bowling wise we've got Smith, Fisher, Sears, Sheat, Shipley, O'Rourke, Foulkes etc. Not to mention KJ. Tickner is universally regarded as a mystifying selection, and he still far from embarrassed himself in this game. Sure there'll be injuries to some of those guys, but I see enough talent there to be reasonably optimistic.

By comparison, on the batting front I'm not sure there's anyone who can be relied on to replace the runs that will be departing when Kane and Conway retire in 3 or 4 years time (and Mitchell, Blundell and Latham will all be hanging up their caps around the same time). That Rachin and Phillips, a couple of guys who average 35 and 40 respectively are supposed to be the backbone of NZ's future test line-up is far more concerning than the bowling stocks.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
So Steads contract ends after the 2023 world cup, so we're going to have to suffer through that. If his contract gets renewed I think I'll burn all my black caps replica shirts.

We may see some retirements from that format at the time so might be a good time for a fresh start but FMD if we're any hope of winning the WC stead has to go now.

The talent pool is no worse than the Fleming era but the management couldn't pick more mystifying sides if they tried some days.

Don’t forget we have the prodigious talent of Ollie White with his amazing NZ U19 average of 21.76 with a top score of 80 against the might of Japan to shore up our batting for the next 15 years

I meant for overseas tours. The future tours schedule says we have 2 tests in Bangladesh at the end of the year and next year (2024) from Sept to Nov we play 1 vs Afghanistan (UAE), 2 in SL, and 3 in India.

We now have several batters on the fringes who bowl decent enough spin - Bracewall (his batting needs work though), Phillips, Ravindra, Foxcroft etc. Ajaz might not be back which would make for a tragically short test career, but Sodhi looked genuinely good in Pakistan and both Tim Pringle and Adithya Ashtok look like potential guns. Todd Murphy is only 2 years older than them, so I hope our selectors have some guts like the Australian ones.
