Ashwin motm for me. ATG over to get Smith and Labuschagne in the first innings, excellent knock to rescue us in the third and this morning he was apparently brilliant again.

Axar is the other candidate. Wouldn’t give it to Jadeja, as good as his figures were they really were gifts.

That second innings collapse has to be blamed on Head and this whole Bazball lark. Don't think if they batted normally they wouldnt have matched their first innings score.
Nothing bazball about Aus today morning. They swept as a coping mechanism for their inability to trust their conventional game. It wasn't a mode of attack or a way of unsettling the bowlers. They imagined demons in the track that never existed or not to the extent they imagined them anyway and came out looking foolish for their troubles.

Feel like the commentators are right that Australia overdid the sweeps but I think the kind of sweeps they were trying were dumb too. Against Jadeja, trying to constantly sweep conventionally square/in front of square is really hard. Surely against him if you do want to sweep, the paddle would be a better option. Try and use his pace against him. Even for the reverse sweep your hands need to go through all kinds of contortions before the ball gets to you, the paddle gives you so much more time.
Paddle would require higher estimation of the line, something that Aus are really struggling

2013-14 Australia won 4/4 and batted first. Lost 4-0. England 2016/17, won 4/5 batted first, lost series 4-0. Australia in 2017, won 3/4, batted first, lost 2-1. England 2021, won 3-4 batted first, lost 3-1. Australia won 2/2 tosses in 2023, batted first, down 2-0
So Australia needs to call sidesys on the next toss to ensure a loss.

This Test feels like Gabba Test in the opposite. You are slightly ahead at the start of the day and then batting implodes against disciplined bowling

This is a minefield. Going to be impossible to bat in the 4th innings...

Batting last any score will be defendable...

Where are those who keep mentioning about batting last!

Give it a rest once in for all. Batting last in India is similar to the 3rd innings and sometimes even a bit easier with pitch slowing down.

This pitch today was very similar to yesterday. Not much difference between 2nd innings and 4th innings.

And my favorite when Aus is batting in first innings - "Any run here is gold dust given how pitch is going to explode".

Commentators barring a very few, Indian included, have no idea how pitches work in India. DK was the notable exception. Sanju Manju still can't stop wanking about Labu's 49 at Nagpur even if he hasn't done anything of note in this series.

England and Australia between them have won 95% of tosses and batted first and lost most of the matches.
Lost almost all of those matches!

Batting 1st vs Batting 2nd, the difference thesedays is small in terms of pitch conditions, unlike the previous era where the pitches were flat giving big advantage to team batting 1st.
