*Official* England in NZ 2023

it's almost like mindless slogging is risky against anyone paid money to bowl a ball.

Bazball has merits, especially when a team has better bowlers than you have batsmen (hit them off that length) which is why it has been more successful for the lesser English players than trying to bat properly and sucks for Joe Root, but when you're facing a team playing their 14th and 15th best quicks, a part time spinner and a guy who should be doing the retirement county stint, you should just bat to the percentages.
England batted like this against Bumrah, Shami, Nortje, Rabada and your best bowlers last summer.

It's time to admit that Bazball is the future. Evolve or die.

I agree with all of that. England have fashioned a contest here that wasn’t necessary, and would definitely like to see Root play his natural game. I was worried he was going to try and fit into the Bazball mould too much back in our summer.

If Root bats normally and avoids any really good Southee spells (or balls where the others just click) he'll score like 350+ if he wants.

He has these spells in him which is why I like him and NZ A like him but yeah he should never have been put in this position against this meme. People were comparing him to O'Brien but he's more similar to Harmison imo. He'll have days or months where he goes off and then periods of spraying it at 134kph.
I was more comparing their actions than their MOs tbf
