I think people on these boards overrate domestic runs Vs ODI runs as a reaction to a lot of selections that go the other way.

Yadav is probably at worst going to have a meh test career where he doesn't make as many runs as he should, like Yuvraj Singh or Jos Buttler. And there are plenty of big successes of a one day player coming good in tests, one of them's on 96* at the other end.
i’d say it would have been more successful back when odi pitches weren’t roads and test pitches weren’t this bowling friendly

There's a lot wrong with this.

Yadav isn't even an ODI success yet, he averages in the 20s. This is a t20 selection. Rohit also made plenty of FC runs before being selected in tests.

Plus, the thing people are annoyed about is that Gill has been left out, who is literally a guy who is in brilliant ODI form, and also got a test ton recently. So if you wanted to select a player based on LoI form why not Gill.

kind off funny that the three selections or decisions we made prior to SKY based on mostly white ball records in Bumrah, Rohit and Axar have all worked so well for us. can only think of that as the reason why SKY was picked here
This is not exactly right. Rohit had a 50+ average in Ranji when he got selected and Axar was also killing it in the Ranji. It is only Bumrah that they took based on T20 exploits.

Sarfaraz khan should be included in the squad at least. He average nearly 80 in fc last few seasons and would be the most accurate replacement for Iyer.

tbf Sharma had one of the better FC records in the country at one point. It's not a body of work that Sky can boast.

The tricky thing with Indian domestic records is they mean very little if you do well, but I still think they mean a lot when you don't.

Both are good guides. I think Gilly was the first one I remember who got into the test team on odi performances. I think even Khawaja made a comeback on odi runs.

Jos buttler averages 34 odd in FC he performed about as well as youde expect him to perform in redball.
