i also think ball tampering must be legal and that smith/warner/bancroft did nothing wrong so there's that

bonus extra good if it is done against eng or sa

@silentstriker is this your question?

- if there is no functional difference in the pitch for rhb vs lhb, is it not on principle a bad thing to try such a strategy even if just to **** with the minds of the visiting team -

if it is, it is totally fair to engage in mind games and **** with the opposition
Nope that was not my question.

It’s all good, it’s clear that I have failed in formulating the question I intended to ask in a way that makes sense. Because I just re-read it and I do not see how I can make it clearer so I can’t really do anything else. We can move on to another discussion because we can’t really have a productive argument when we can’t even agree on the question I’m asking.

Henceforth all non-nagpur pitches to be referred to as carelessly curated pitches.
Always Nagpur at the heart of a pitch controversy. It was the most treacherous pitch during the 2015 saf tour too which got lot of criticism.
Don't forget the 2005 series game where there was grass on the pitch and Ganguly didn't play that match.

He supports India so its the opposite of Gambhiring

I struggle to see how Australia could win a game though. I mean its pretty clear when you have 3 spinners as good as India have, a visiting team only going to win here by somehow holding them off for couple of games and then having a lot of luck going their way. Today was one if those days for Aust as they won a significant toss and their two best batsmen looked set but still could not capitalize. It is just what it is India are just too good in these conditions
Oh ye of little faith.

This is a bowling friendly pitch. It just takes a wicket to spark a collapse and its not like the Indian batting lineup is in great knick.

Restrict India to a 50 lead, and somehow set India 150-170 for a final chase, it's anyone's game.

Heh, your question lost all meaning within the context of the thread when it became quite clear that the pitch was not acting up for left handers.

Since your question then pivoted to become about a general principle about the desirability of a hypothetical event which, afaik, has never actually happened, it just invited either platitudes or pisstakes.

3rd dig at Nagpur is historically the best time to bat (Australia's first innings total is just about par, time when they bat shouldnt be a concern unless India make 500+, and if they do
the game is dead anyway) and marnus+smith both looked very solid before they got out to good balls (even if smith shouldn't have played for turn).

I feel like I've written this exact post before, but the game is very far from dead.

Eh? Third dig is usually where visiting teams die in India. If they can't handle Jadeja when its not turning like ****, they are certainly not handling him in two days time

I admit its far from dead. IRRC India are in a slightly better position to where Australia were after day 1 Bangalore 2017. Just can't see it happening. Ftr I did not see a bowl of the Indian innings so can't really comment. How did Murphy and Lyon looked?

Small sample but batting 3rd at nagpur is the best time to bat. 1675967843063.png

from Jarrod Kimble's mood board of the first day, think there's also a graph of average innings with a larger sample at some other point in the vid.

Its interesting but normally, from memory visiting teams tend to collapse in the 3rd dig. Any way what about Lyon and Murphy bit did they look threatening? Can't really decide from highlights as they only show the boundaries and wickets

Lyon was kinda meh itbt. Nothing to read into, but he didn't threaten

Murphy genuinely looks the goods. Consistently hitting good areas and getting the ball to really drift

Decent bowling effort from India first up...and our TAIL (top-order of abjectly inept losers) is wagging a little bit right now but one can never underestimate their capacity to fall in a heap...

Murphy looked really good I thought.
Lyon was average but the biggest concern was Cummins.
