1900 - 39
Change this to
6) Faulkner 7) Ames 8) Gregory 9) Larwood 10) O'Reilly 11) Barnes
your selection was awesome as Faulkner was good both with bat and ball and same goes to jack gregory. but if you observe i took more players from 1930s compared to 1920s and only one from 1910s (Barnes)
As i was a bit skeptical how the game was before World War 1 and immediately after the War.
I choose the team for the following reasons :
1) Hobbs - Named in 6 giants of the wisden century and 5 cricketers of the century
2) Sutcliffe- very successful partner to Hobbs and ICC hall of fame member with great batting average from mid 1920s to 1930s
3) Headley- he was famously called Black Bradman a hall of fame member
4) Hammond- 2nd best batsmen to Bradman and also good medium pace bowler can be used effectively if i take 2 spinners
5) Bradman- Any All Time XI team Bradman is a must no more discussion
6) Les Ames- Wisden called him "Greatest Wicket keeper Batsmen" he averaged 40 so his batting skills are required against Warne, Marshall, Trueman like Legends.
7) Stan McCabe - I thought for many hours should i take him or frank woolley or wilfred rhodes or Aubrey Faulkner but finally i took him as he was the 3rd highest number of runs in 1930s after Hammond and Bradman, He was better batsmen than the other 3 i have mentioned. Only guy to adjust to Bodyline Series among the Australian Team. Most importantly he was the only guy who could bowl medium pace as i don't need the spin bowling contributed by rhodes or woolley or faulkner as i have 2 greatest and different type of leg spinners in reilly and grimmett.
8) Larwood, Barnes, Reilly are mandatory and Grimmett took him as he is a different type of leg spinner to reilly.
2 Spinners, 1 Fast Bowler, 1 Medium pace Bowler, 2 part time medium pace bowlers not a bad combination what do you say ?
