Australia ATG vs ROW XI - in Australia

Slifer

International Captain
Is this because the Indian batsmen that Warne bowled against were trash against McGrath and Gillespie, getting out before Warne had a chance to take their wicket? McGrath will be in this team, so the advantage Tendulkar gets is negated by the amount of times he got out cheaply before Warne had a chance.

Unrelated to Migara's thing, but another thing to consider is how much of an advantage will the worlds team have in terms of openers. All around the world, I'll give them that, but in Australia, I'd say the advantage is negated, because our guys are so much better here.
Fair comment.

Hayden always seems to do exceptionally well in these things - I remember the last sim exercise I saw here he piled on the runs too.

Can it be said that with Bradman, Australia win, without Bradman, Australia lose?
Nah

Going to use this lineup as a basis for my ROTW 18 man squad. Added 7 more players, including 2 spinners, 1 pacer, 2 all rounders (batting and bowling) and one batsmen. Added imran as the bowling all-rounder, kallis as the batting all-rounder, murali, allan donald and jadeja as the bowlers, gavaskar as the backup batsmen and watling. Think most explain themselves but allan donald is a beast in these sim's, murali is a beast aswell and jadeja has done extremely well vs Aus in Aus against a good lineup.
Hobbs
Hutton
Hammond
Tendulkar
Richards
Sobers
Knott
Imran
Hadlee
Marshall
Ambrose
Somehow Sutcliffe in Australia is being shafted for Hutton and Gavaskar, sigh.

What will every other batsman come down to then? Because you can't arbitrarily knock 30-40 runs off one bloke and then decide everyone else will stay true to their numbers.
They will avg like 35-40. The difference in percentage terms remains same but in real value terms, it will come down!

Bradman 99 vs 55-60 = 40 to 45 run difference

Bradman 60-70 vs 35-40 = 25 to 30 run difference.

The real value differential becomes less which can be made up by the all-rounders in the ROW XI.

Fmd Bradman must have just been a monumental pain in the arse to play against. The ridiculous thing about his stats for this series is they’re eminently believable.

pakistan last won a test match in australia in 1995. 4 total since starting tours. did not think their results would suck this much. honestly thought imran would have won a few tests on his own in his peak.

Until 95 Pakistan were pretty competitive in Australia even if they didnt win a series.

The psychological damage of the 99 whitewash of a pretty decent Pakistan side was so deep that even the thought of winning a test let alone a series has become a Mount Everest. It is Pakistan's version of SA's chokehold in ICC tournaments.

SA have played 8 WCs since 1992 8*4=32 years of choking

pak is actually worse given the 42 year choke

They won a test on 3 of Imran's tours to Australia. Since his retirement their record is 1 win , 0 draws, 16 losses. Historic levels of sucking.

Nah. 77, 79 and 81 Pakistan won tests. They lost 2-0 in 5 tests in 84/85 but Imran was injured and couldnt bowl. In 90 they lost 1-0 but it was a tight contest. In 95 they lost 2-1 against Australia who were already the best team in the world.

99 onwards it has been a disaster, so around 24 years of sucking.

Even in that time they came close on a few occasions. Hobart 99 Gilly pulled off an impossible chase. Sydney 2009 was just, well. In 2016 they nearly pulled off a huge run chase in the first test and should have drawn the second test but crumbled in the last session. Each time, Pakistan buckled.
