Does Akram have a better case to be selected than Imran?

I think if you select Sobers, there is no need for spinner as I don’t think any spinner has a strong enough record there.
Maybe someone like Headley Verity? Not sure of his record here but I know he was always rated very highly by those who played against him

Marshall’s only big tour in Australia was in 84/85 against a fairly ordinary side.

Wasim had two good tours in 90 and 95 against strong teams.

Holding had three excellent tours there too.

5) AB De Villiers (WK)
6) Garfield Sobers
7) Imran Khan
8) Richard Hadlee
9) Malcolm Marshall

5 pacers is overkill. But I like your batting lineup. Here is my XI:

Sutcliffe
Hobbs
Viv
Hammond
Tendulkar
Sobers
ABD - keeper
Hadlee
Akram
Holding
Ambrose

Holding has a magnificent record in Australia and is a speed merchant, you need one of those. Akram has better bowling and and batting returns than Marshall and played stronger sides too. It's touch and go between Imran and Wasim but I think Wasim edges it.

Probably Underwood or Gibbs if you want a specialist spinner.
Yeah Gibbs a decent shout. Had a good series in 60/61 in that tied test tour. Not sure his precise numbers here. I think Underwood averaged about 30 here

Verity averaged 34 down under with a very high strike rate but he did play Bradman so I reckon that's as good as a spinner could've hoped for. Good shout.

And next to those pre-war blokes is Jadeja who also won't count for @subshakerz whatever the criteria may be.
Will count for more now that the utter direness of away spinners is pretty clear in Australia.

Based on this, Mushtaq Ahmed's 18 wickets in the mid-nineties is the best performance by a spinner in a series in the country in history perhaps.
