Has Ashwin surpassed Warne as the greatest conventional spin bowler of all time? I can kind of guess where the poll will lean towards, but just wanted to spark some discussion.

Obviously Ashwin has a long way to go to get to the cumulative wickets taken stat of Warne, but already his average is over a point lower than Warne's, which although a simplistic measure, is the general starting point for these discussions. Does anyone think Ashwin's already better if he retired tomorrow? If not, what would it take to get him there, just more longevity, or some specific achievements?
Probably the question came up about 4 years too early. Let Ashwin finish his career first to have any fair comparison. He is already close to 36 years and played less than 90 tests. If he gets another 50 (unlikely though) he can be close to Warne in terms of wickets and may even surpass Kapil Dev in terms of runs scored. Put it another way "the greatest allrounder to have ever played the game."

Not so sure on this one, as his batting average sits at 27.41 currently, and would have to improve some points for mine. He might already have the "greatest spin bowling allrounder" tag sewn up though, depending on how you classify Sobers.

Are Bradman and Marshall the only cricketers who can never be humiliated in a proper poll ?
Define proper. “Who was a great player of pace bowling?” Bradman won’t get many votes cos he only averaged 50 odd vs Bodlyine. “Which ATG would Kane Williamson destroy the most?” Marshall cos he sucked in NZ.

You could try a a straight McGrath vs Marshall. I think the demographics of this forum could have shifted enough that you might get more for McGrath now than in previous iterations from decades past.

Do you know what humiliation means ?
Losing a close poll is not humiliation .
