smith backs down on retirement plans, although at 33, he is 'old', so will eventually retire within 3-4 years.

probably will be no.2 to ponting run scorers list for AUS. Ponting retired at 37 and there were no test match covid absences.

Haha multiple people. I'm not referring to overt misery like skyliner but the snarky, negative, cynical, look how smort i am, tear everyone down undercurrent that permeates this subforum outside match threads (and sometimes contaminates them).

Some people don't have it at all, many have a little case, some live in it.
Is this because I don't rate Turner and Bond

The current Australia test core debuts:

Smith: 2010 Pakistan in England
Khawaja: 2010-11 Ashes
Lyon: 2011 Sri Lanka away
Cummins: 2011 South Africa away
Warner: 2011 New Zealand home
Starc: 2011 New Zealand home

Very noticeably we can see that this generation started around 2010/2011 after we got smashed in the Ashes at home. A fitting transition from late Ponting era.

assuming australia will declare on the current total if the elements allow for play on day 4...

33 isn't old lmao. Those were the years of prime Sanga, Chanderpaul and Michael Hussey to name just three

Smith could easily play till his early 40s if he truly wanted too. Don't know if he's looking at a media career, investments etc for the future, but the guy is an absolute cricket badger. Think he'll play till 38-39 minimum

If Anderson as a bowler can go on past 40, perhaps batsman will come to realise they are weak ****s if they don't.

Still raining here.

Hope it fines up for the kids’ 21st tomorrow
Good news is at least there's basically nothing after this band of rain. Still a delayed start seems somewhat likely, alas. At least Australia have a lot of spin so light won't be as much of an issue.

You reckon Australia might try to set up the game for them to win?

Not sure we'll even get enough overs in for that.....
we won't get a double declaration, if anything we're getting uz gets to double ton > declare > push for the follow on
