Yeah no one is picking Smith in a toty in 2013. People were still questioning his place in the national side (though that was already absurd at that point)

I wouldn't say questioning his place would have been absurd. As someone mentioned he wasn't even in the team until halfway through the India tour that year then made that 92. Then he was rightfully given the number 5 spot for the home Ashes and did quite well but wasn't until 2014-15 home summer that he became the run machine we know.

It would have been absurd because by that point he'd scored 3 hundreds in his last 5 games

At the end of 2013 he'd only made 2 hundreds, and his career average was 36. But yes I'd say at the end of 2013 questioning his place would have been ridiculous, I was more talking about times during the year.

When his competition for batting spots were George Bailey and Alex Doolan I'm surprised people were questioning it tbh
