Probably worth seeing where we're at when next summer rolls around first tbh. Pretty rare that everyone's fit with our schedule being what it is, and there'll be a fair whack of early season county cricket to look at by then as well.

I think that the CC will be more likely to raise possibilities about the openers, especially if either of the current incumbents fails badly in NZ . Whereas the current middle order and Bairstow have enough credit in the bank to be safe almost whatever happens in NZ and during the first couple of months of the CC.

Solves the Crawley issue and the skipper can slide up to #4.

I very much doubt it.

I don't think Crawley will be going anywhere. He's a Kent man and even before Rob Key became involved with England, he was always bigging Crawley up.

The opener at risk will be Duckett. He's an excellent player of spin and has done well in recent seasons domestically, opening for Notts.

But will he be technically good enough to open at test match level in England against the Dukes ball.

The jury is well and truly out on that one.

Whatever we do come up with, both Brook and YJB will play in the 1st Ashes test unless they're injured.

Impossible to choose between Brook & Bairstow... They're both England's best batters at the moment I feel.
Pope is making a great impression at number 3, and Foakes keeps showing he's an amazing wicket keeper and a very good batter.
It feels Crawley would have to be the one to go.

This would seem like a solid batting unit with a 4seamers-2spinners (Leach/Root) attack.

To be fair he missed last summer due to injury rather than him giving up on red ball cricket. Not sure where he fits in the bowling hierarchy under Stokes - shouldn't be first choice but expect he'll still be in contention for squads at least at home.

He has taken his name off the IPL list in order to play CC and be ready for the Ashes. So I guess he could still make it and we could still have Stokes-Foakes-Woakes.

nah **** that. he'll take a bag versus ireland on a green top at home and before you know it they'll have him taking the new ball away in india in jan 2024, bowling innocuous 80mph pies and getting absolutely demolished.

its a risk not worth taking especially when you've got robinson GOATing it.

Only reasonable to assume he'd match that if not better it if he was playing the current series under Bazball rules.

Yep the emergence of Robbo has taken away the slot of 2nd swing or seam bowler when Broad or Jimmy are missing. Even then potts at home is next cab off the rank and rightly so given his age
