The South african who used his armpit was funny. Now can't use saliva would armpit be legal?
Assuming you're referring to that video of Pat Symcox, the armpit was fine then. It was the thumbnail gouges beforehand that raised eyebrows.

I don't believe we have heard the last of 'Sandpapergate' - no matter how hard CA tries to cover up. I find it hard to believe that only 3 players (Warner, Bancroft, Smith) were aware of what was happening and that CA official/officials was/were in the dark.
lmao

If they weren't trying to cover up then why did CA deny Warner an open hearing - insisting it was closed?
CA are the ones who blew the whole thing up lol if was left as it should have been Bancroft would have been banned for a game and everyone would have continued on with their lives

but no CA had to make a media circus of it and blow it out of proportion by handing out year-long bans to protect their image (which didn't work at all btw), and possibly to punish the players for the contract issues they had just before that

Maybe they went hard to cover their involvement. Wasn't there a strange conversation in the sheds after the Hobart thrashing? And maybe that arsehole Pat Howard involved?

That's what Erskine is alleging. Obviously it's well documented that CA were just fine, and indeed encouraged, Warner to "push the envelope" with regards to behaving badly on-field during that 2016-18 period, but this is the first time anyone's explicitly said CA encouraged him to ball-tamper.

It was telling Australia effectively gave in after sandpaper gate. The last part of that test and the 4th altogether. A side can develop a laager mentality in response to attack even if they are in the wrong. Our reaction suggested guys were sacrificed to cover up for others and that impression never seems to go away.

Using sandpaper was just comically stupid given the number of cameras on the ground and the scrutiny the ball is under from the umpires. At least attempt a little cunning.
