England test tour of Pakistan December 2022

Root hasn't looked like taking a wicket here (and leach not much better) and yet Robinson hasn't bowled and Anderson just 2 overs (and 1 wicket).

No 2nd spinner was always the really strange one. They must have really wanted Moeen to come back.
You'd think they must have had that conversation with Moeen.

On a turning pitch like this you need 2 spinners and both Mo and Adil Rashid seem to have given up on the red ball game.

I'm surprised we didn't pick Dom Bess - he's as good as we've got after Leech and he bats as well.

Bazball doesn't quite yet seemed to have worked out team selection. 1st test on a flat one picking only 3 frontline bowlers - helped out by Foakes going down ill with jacks coming in. 2nd test picking an extra seamer on a slow turner. No 2nd spinner of note in squad.
Wood's extra pace would be handy with old reversing ball.

Babar looked very fluid today but I'm not sure if he can score a century against England at home on a normal cricket pitch.

Those who watched is Abrar genuinely a prospect with skills like revs, drift, bounce etc or is a mystery bowler who becomes ordinary once decoded?

Leach has looked very good tbh. I'm not sure one team's spinners taking all 10 wickets is indicative of much, it could just mean that the pace bowlers sucked which they did for Pakistan. You're almost damning Anderson for getting an early breakthrough with that logic. Leach is the definition of adequate but it's not like he coasts along in the manner of an employee on his notice period like Asad Shafiq. He does the donkey work and does it well enough. Going back to Bess would be taking the piss. Plus, Leach deserves points for being the most generic English spinner possible.

The selection of someone like Zahid means we will never be a serious test team.A 34 yr old 40 averaging spinner in FC cricket which is not particularly of very high standard and he is playing test cricket for us.

I am at loss of words why Shadab is not bejng pushed to get him self fit for test cricket the team screams for a player like him and we are happy to keep him restricted to white ball cricket.

Yasit maybe past his sell date but i think he will be like a peak Warne compared to this garbage

It might also mean that England were going for their shots a lot more than Pakistan...

Who would you replace him with? Leach isn't Shane Warne but he's the only proper spinner England have.
A year ago I'd have said Parkinson should be on this tour and bowling alongside Leach. But he looked very innocuous in his Test this Summer and I imagine the setup believes he's just too slow to be a constant threat at this level. Ironically he'd probably bowl ok at this England team given they're so aggressive but a side that doesn't take chances could just milk him. I think they may have to risk Rehan Ahmed in the last game tbh.
