South Africa team selection

I don't know what Fortuin's recent domestic form has been like, but he has performed in the international matches he's played. I'd still take Linde over him, but he's not a completely ridiculous selection.
He is either injured or out of favor. In the 4 day games they gone all pace and in the 50 overs young alder has been the spinner.

1. Elgar (C)
2. Erwee
3. de Bruyn/Zondo
4. Bavuma
5. van der Dussen
6. Verreynne (Wk)
7. Jansen
8. Maharaj
9. Rabada
10. Nortje
11. Ngidi

If de Bruyn plays he is at 3,if Zondo plays he is at 5 and VDD moves to 3. We aren't outbatting Australia. The middle order batters have a combined 3 Test hundreds between them. Granted Zondo just got his debut, but it is damning stat. They could play all *** batters and drop Ngidi but I don't think the runs that will come will outweigh weakening the attack. It is crazy that they have basically forced themselves into this selection.

Looking at the warmup I quess klaassen isn't in contention for the 11, as he was the only one not to get a hit.

The team looks like yours but rassie is going in at 3 seemingly and zondo or de bruyn at 5.

I'm gobsmacked that Ryan Rickleton did not make the cut. I fear this is not going to go down well in the dressing room as Rickleton has a lot of teammates and friends in the squad

What do our SA members see as the strongest line-up from this touring party?
1.Elgar (CPT)
2.Erwee
3.Van Der Dussen
4.De Bruyn
5.Klaasen
6.Bavuma
7.Verryenne (WK)
8.Jansen
9.Maharaj
10.Nortje
11.Rabada

I wouldn't plan on playing 4 specialist bowlers the entire series but I do think for the first test there does need to be some shoring up of the batting line up , there is just far too many question marks for me to just chuck Marco Jansen at 7 and hope for the best , Elgar has a very average record away from home ..Erwee is still new at this level , Van Der Dussen has not been great at Test level , De Bruyn averaged 19 from 12 Test matches last time he was involved in the side , Bavuma a lot of negativity around him lately and Verryenne still is trying to nail down a place at this level ...Jansen , Nortje and Rabada should be strong enough to handle the majority of the workload for one test match ..I'd pick Klaasen cause that double ton he made recently shows he's in a good space .

This has been discussed to death here already, but FFS rickelton has 2 hundred's + a 99 in 3 innings in the domestic one day comp, and 2 hundred's in 4 innings in the domestic FC comp this season. There's absolutely no way he wasn't fit enough to tour australia for 3 tests.

I was originally inclined to give the selectors the benefit of the doubt on Rickelton, but not anymore. Even if they think Klaasen's the better keeper, surely Rickelton makes it purely as a batsman.

The fact we have guys like Rickelton and de Zorzi who have been and continue to score runs at FC level, who are just getting ignored for the ‘in club’ apparently more experienced players says lots about SA cricket and the selection policy. I will caveat all this, with the number of runs this season so far, with lots of good players scoring lots of runs, but also indicating flat conditions and poor bowling attacks.

The Batting has been atrocious but the same players keep getting picked

Man what a stagnant looking squad. Probably see them doing something like this:

1. Erwee
2. Elgar (C)
3. Rassie
4. Bavuma
5. Zondo
6. Verreynne (Wk)
7. Jansen
8. Maharaj
9. Rabada
10. Nortje
11. Ngidi

I think we are going to lose our streak in Australia boys!
Well called by the way...

Hmm in not one for blaming quotas but I see there are rumblings of disappointment now that Mpitsang is in the driving seat. I'm starting to think that "ankle-gate" is an excuse

Possibly... but he has been convenor for 2 years now, so none of this is new.
