England test tour of Pakistan December 2022

It's a really tough call on Foakes but the truth is that he's always going to be vulnerable to getting dropped for a better batsman who can also keep.

This time it's Pope but in the future it could easily be YJB or Buttler.

Going forward it's hard to see much of a future for Foakes when the attacking option would be to pick one of the better batsmen options rather than a specialist keeper.

Good to see Woody back after yet another injury. We must wrap him up in cotton wool next year for the Ashes
nah wood is warming the bench at home. anderson-broad-robinson please.

Foakes scored some useful runs in the summer didn't he? Maybe this is only a very short-term selection to shoe-horn two spinners into the side.

The point has nothing to do with nail-biters. The point is they lost control under pressure. If they’re being hit off their length and conceding runs quickly the same thing could happen, with strong emphasis on the “could”.
Easier said than done. That's like saying if you upset Allan Donald's rhythm, you can easily milk him for runs.

You can go around in circles all night. Someone originally said that the Aussies would sort Bazball out and someone else commented that they have been known to stutter under pressure.
That’s all. No one has said anything will be easy, We might be all out for 36.

if i were england i wouldn't want to give the gloves to bairstow just because he was going so damn well with the bat unencumbered

wouldn't want to risk putting a stopper on that lightning in the bottle tbh

I'm pretty sure Burns played at least as many Tests as Crawley has, Sibley similar. But I do agree that Crawley's style is giving him more of a look than he otherwise deserves, although England's poor opening depth also helps.
i could well be wrong but it feels like burns was more in and out of the team whereas crawley appears to have been the first name on the team sheet for ages now

you're right re england's opening depth but i feel that same excuse suspiciously didn't benefit those other guys listed

When Crawley gets in he does often look like a Test batsman. No matter how long Burns bats he still looks like he’s trying to avoid being arrested for jaywalking.

Him getting injured kind of did that already. If they want him and Brook in the side then he going to have to come back as a keeper.

I suppose you could promote one of the middle order to open, but other than maybe Root I am very skeptical any of them are well equipped for it. And Root would never do it.

Archer will be back in the summer, so one of those three rotated.

Think that it will be Anderson, Broad, Wood, Archer, Stokes and Potts going to New Zealand in February.

Thats exactly it......and the same happened in the Pant test.

They are a top notch bowling outfit absolutely, but we've seen they are suspect when the opposition is looking to take them apart.

I'm confident Eng can win the Ashes next year just because they are clearly a better performing, better managed side than last time which was a drawn series.
So are Australia, though. Having said that England's improvement is clearly much more pronounced; even if you don't buy that this approach is going to work in spicy conditions against a high quality attack (who knows what the global climatic environment will be like by mid next year) the simple fact that the team is clearly having fun and buying into the overall philosophy and trusting its suddenly-competent leadership is a huge huge shift.
