Colin Miller

Why he played so less number of test matches? Was he considered to be inferior to Macgill ?

Is he still the only bowler to take wickets with blue hair ? ?

Remember around 97-98 he was talked of as one of the 3 great Aussie spinners. He also outperformed Warne on 98 tour to India (or was it just one odd game?). Suddenly disappeared. I never tried to find out what happened.

He also outperformed Warne in Chennai Test 2001 (The only test he played in that tour)

Oh he never played in 98 it seems. There was some random spinner that did outperform Warne in 98.

He was handy cos he could bowl decent meds as well as offies but I don’t think anyone seriously thinks he was better than Warne or MacGill

He "suddenly disappeared" because he was nearly 40 years old lol

And yeah hard for him to get a game when you have Warne and MacGill, he mostly only played when one was injured. He was Aus test cricketer of the year in 2001 when Warne missed the summer with injury

Yeah, no one ever thought that. But there was some buzz around 98 that Australia has not 1 but 2 solid backup spinners to Warne.

Was there a test that Warne, MacGill and Miller played in together? I feel like there was. Would be the only time I can remember Australia playing three front line spinners

1.Era he was playing in :

Australia had Warne and Macgill in Miller's era who were excellent Test performers , even if he switched to just pace his era had McGrath , Gillespie, McDermott, Merv Hughes ..He only made his Test debut at 34 in 1998 a lot of excellent players to compete with who were already established in a successful team

2.Conditions :
Most conditions Australia play in are seamer friendly back home , so in most cases they would go for just one spinner and they had a world class one in Warne . If there was a need for two at home or abroad there was Macgill aswell

3.Specialist Bowler
Colin Miller was a No.10 at best .. Australia places importance on a tail that can bat so basically he was competing with Australia's best bowlers for a spot ..If he had the batting ability of say a Greg Blewett he would have played a lot more tests .

He had a bit of a reputation as a hitter. He was a dasher but couldn't really bat. They used him as a pinch hitter at no. 6 in the 2000 Boxing Day Test ahead of Ponting and Gilchrist (lol).

Imagine having Adam Gilchrist to bat but you send out Colin Miller for quick runs

That's how I remember his batting, he could smack a few runs and wasn't bad for a tailender.
