I will go with Akram.
Like, for example, picking Kapil instead of Imran.I assume having Tendulkar, Viv, Kohli, ABD and Dhoni as your top and middle order, it is essentially collapse-proof as it is the strongest you can get. So it does not matter what you do with the rest of the lineup, you don't plan based on this lineup folding, but just how much more you can score in the limited time.
That would mean the main task for the lower order is more to finish chases or smack the last few overs rather than save the lineup.
I think Kapil as no.7 over Imran is a fair decision though Imran to me is the better ODI cricketer.Like, for example, picking Kapil instead of Imran.
Why is my vote ignored? Not only is it anti-Indian cos you’re ignoring a player voted for who is Indian, but my virtue of myself being Indian, and you ignoring my vote, you’re being doubly anti-Indian.Votes so far
Lara 8
Jaya 6
Watson 2
Greenidge 1
Amla 1
Rohit 0
Yeah I am glad we went with an atypical option this time that still makes sense. Watching Lara of the mid 90s against the 2Ws was awesome.Lara opening is kind of weird but also strangely the most reassuring choice. Jayasuriya would average 20 against an ATG attack and I wouldn't trust Rohit against great attacks either. Did Warner at least deserve a shout?

For this reason, Gilchrist is not a bad choice. If we have to accommodate a relative weak link, may as well pick someone who has a secondary role in the team. And Gilchrist is not the one who would waste balls if he is not clicking on a given day.The 2nd opener is where an ODI ATG XI has to accommodate a batsman weaker than rest of the batting line-up
Why is that? The 2nd opener is where an ODI ATG XI has to accommodate a batsman weaker than rest of the batting line-up
Other than Tendulkar, all other openers are a tier below Richards, Kohli, De Villiers and even Dhoni, Bevan. Why is that?
Gilchrist or Jaya based on this logic. But the majority felt that a more solid opener was more important. For this reason, Gilchrist is not a bad choice. If we have to accommodate a relative weak link, may as well pick someone who has a secondary role in the team. And Gilchrist is not the one who would waste balls if he is not clicking on a given day.
Same argument works for Jayasuriya (or Watson) to partner Sachin. For this reason, Gilchrist is not a bad choice. I know I did not vote for 2 of them, but that top 6 is a lineup to die for. ?I am switching my vote back to Lara as he takes the opening spot 10-5 over Jaya. So the lineup is:
1. Lara
2. Tendulkar
3. Viv
4. Kohli
5. ABD
6. Dhoni
7.
8.
9. Garner
10. McGrath
11. Murali
Let us now vote for position no.8 in the lineup.
