CricketWeb selects the ATG ODI XI

Batting is an important factor below 8 too. If it is 10 off 6 or 20 off 10 with 2/3 wickets in hand, a batsman will much rather see Pollock, Hadlee and Warne at the other end than Mcgrath, Garner and Murali.
In an ATG XI, where you have Kohli at 3(recognised as the best chasing batsmen ever), will have another great chaser in Bevan/Dhoni(latter has an average of near 100 in chases), and other ATG batsmen like Sachin, Viv, ABD, and in my personal ATG XI, Kapil at 7 and Wasim at 8, there is enough batting superpower to chase down most totals. In a rare scenario, where you are chasing 350 and above totals(and you have a batsmen like Kohli who has been part of successful run chases like, and batting with ABD will only make it better, since both understand each others games so well), and you need 20 from 10 or lower, with 3 or less wickets remaining, maybe Pollock will do better than McGrath, but more than 20 from 10 at a similar run rate, even Pollock can’t do and plus Pollock’s SR is not 95+ or something, so even if he does better Im not sure he can win it. And in my case, I have Wasim at 8 who has done that at times. But McGrath for me is a better ODI bowler than Pollock, and hence keeping in mind the above XI, I will choose McGrath and Garner, even though overall Pollock is the greater cricketer.

There is no point in selecting a team if we know that it will win. We have to select the best team of all time from earth which can play an equally strong team from Mars and hence, has to be equipped to face all scenarios. Roles of 9-11 is not to win games with the bat but to not be a bunny and support the batsman at the other end to their best. Pollock will be better in that.

In my earlier post I had recommended Jonty. Seriously, do u guys think saving vital runs is not important in an ODI?
