Jeez I can’t think of many bigger upsets than that in a WC
It's a while back now, but Cameroon beat Argentina (then defending champions) 1-0 in the first game of Italia 90.

Englishmen in floods of joyful tears were openly embracing on the streets in the aftermath.

Also notable for possibly the best foul ever on Claudio Caniggia. Couple of Cameroonians have a bash at stopping the flying Argentine before it's third time lucky for the late, great Benjamin Massing.

Not so much an attempt to break his legs, more an effort bisect him across the middle:

USA beating England in WC 1950 was the biggest upset imo ,
England declined to play in the first two editions of the WC ...Entered the 1950 tournament still with the belief that as inventors of the sport this was gonna be a walk in the park ..

The USA team had a postman , a milkman and a funeral director in their line up and won 1-0 ?..

Ha, yeah that's the one.

Of course we had to take the cane from the cupboard and give Johnny Cameroon a sound English thrashing in the quarters*, but he gave it a good lash.

*or win 3-2 after extra time, if you prefer...

There is a case for North Korea's run to the Quarterfinals in 1966. They were only there because of a massive boycott by the rest of Africa and Asia

This upset put a smile on my face this morning. Highlights made me wonder if any of the not given goals were bad decisions but it seems like an offside trap that worked as designed. Upsets are always good unless your country is on the receiving end.

They definitely got some luck in the first half. That Martinez one was one of those real VAR offsides. It could easily have been 4-0 at half time really, does not make it any less of a great win.

This is tough, it’s hard not to root for the underdogs like Saudi Arabia.

But it’s Saudi Arabia and morally it’s hard to root for them.
