That's not a slippery slope, you're just annoyed I pointed out rightly that Ponting bashed sub-standard attacks too.
No. It's not the same at all. 2000s Bangladesh and Zimbabwe were on another plane of rankness. And if you start nitpicking attacks from top 8 teams then you'd have no Kallis runs left either.

The one series where India's bowlers actually bowled decently in Australia for once with Pathan and RP singh bowling good spells.

Oh and what do you know Ponting averaged 38. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm ? ? ?
Not what I was getting at

I figured something to do with the controversy surrounding the series, Sydney test in particular. Can't recall if Ponting had a lot to do with it directly though

Reminds me of when someone was trying to argue that Warne's bowling against England was the equivalent of bowling to Bangladesh & Zimbabwe because they were "bad at playing spin"

Fairly sure Bucknor is 90% of the Villain from that series.

I remember going to buy some milk around that time early in the morning and some boys were playing cricket in a field, one of them was hit on leg roughly a meter outside the leg stump, the bowler being the bowler appealed anyway and the acting umpire said "Today I shall be Bucknor" and gave him out.

Yeah whatever happened in 07-08 is mostly forgotten. Ponting is highly respected in Indian cricket circles now. In fact BCCI approached Punter to be India’s coach before Dravid .

If Sehwag decided to bat at a strike rate of 40 instead of 80, his average wouldn’t improve. It would actually drop.
But if he batted with an SR of 60 rather than 80, it would improve. Especially could probably score more in Eng/SA/NZ. A slight curbing of his aggressive instincts rather than brainless hit mode all the time would have made him a better bat.

Won't forget that first test in SA in 2011 when he slashed wildly outside off to a Steyn outswinger in the first over and got caught at third man on a greentop. There really was no excuse for that Afirdi-level recklessness.

Did the batsman then say "Today I shall be India and threaten to go home"?

If you compared peaks, the difference between Kallis and Ponting would be less than if you compared overall careers.

Ponting until his peak began was already a much better and more accomplished bat than Kallis.

I don't know if that's true. Same with Ponting. If Ponting played with Kallis' strike rate I'm not convinced his average would be higher.

SR of 60 is still high but not dangerously high. It would allow Sehwag to be aggressive most of the time but be able to restrict himself when need be.
