England tour of Australia ODIs

Whilst I think England are the better team, the Aussies have to start as favourites given that for many of England's players, this is very much after the Lord Mayor's show. A couple of the players have already said as much.

Also after the Aussies poor show in the WC, they should be well up for this.

I'd imagine for the 1st game, many of our players who played T20 final will be rested so it will be a bit of a mix and match side.

Finally, our squad is a bit strange in that players like Hales, Brooks & Livingston aren't included. There's also no Joe Root or Ben Duckett. And of course there's no Stokes.

I think if this was a ODI world cup, our squad would have a very different look to it.

Given all that and much is in the Aussies favour, I think we'll only win 2-1 instead of 3-0

The strangeness is because the Test squad for England's Pakistan tour are off to prep for those Tests, so no one in that squad are playing these ODIs. That rules out Root, Stokes, Brooks, Livingstone (for some reason), Duckett and Mark Wood.

Hales wasn't going to be on this Australia tour at all until his late call up to the T20 stuff to cover for Bairstow's injury and was never added to the ODI squad.

Absolutely scandalous how they're playing this Bilateral series. ECB should give them scheduled time off ffs.

What's a WC win If you can't properly celebrate it and indulge a bit? Piss poor

Well this will be interesting. I want 3-0 to heap futher misery on Australia and in their backyard. And i do genuine believe if the weather is good we will win 3-0 without Bairstow, Stokes etc we have the tools to dismantle the Aussies and they are beginning to be past it as a world force and have very little coming through.

Wouldn't be overly disappointed if Aus lose this series if it means they reset the LO sides, something which is long overdue.

Don't think Marnus should be there. Cummins also isn't great as an ODI bowler (better than in T20s though). Starc needs to get back to swinging the ball or he should be looked at too. Carey is ok but there are other blokes who should arguably get a look in as well. There needs to be some fresh blood imo. Side is getting too old.

Fair points tbh, starc's still taking wickets but the lack of swing does complicate the attack. Who would you bring in?

Good point, bring Inglis in and back him long-term, consider for captaincy in a year or 2 as well

Also hopefully it will bring about some political influence to rehabilitate the team's image

Out of interest mate, who would you like to see in the side. In England we don't see any Australian domestic cricket apart from the Big Bash but there must be plenty of young talent about.

With the ODI World Cup only a year away, do you think you'll wait until after that before blooding any youngsters?

Caleb Jewell at the top of the order might be an option. I think someone like Phillipe could come in for Carey. Or even noted Tory boot licker Josh Inglis, much as it pains me to say.

Bowlers like Ellis who use their variations well in T20s could be a shot as well. Abbott deserves a decent run in the LO side too. A couple of young all rounders like Hardie from WA as well as Green could come into contention.

There are options, it's just they're running out of time ahead of the WC next year to give them a game. I think rn they're almost sleep walking towards the same type of mistakes they made with the T20 side by sticking with fellas who are a bit meh

Smith 3 Marnus 4 is fine in ODs especially when the next wc is in India. There is still room for middle order accumulation vs spin. Green, Carey, Maxwell to follow isn't bad either. I think it's alright with the batting side of things atleast

Like Phillipe a lot but is his keeping good enough no idea. Maybe he can replace Warner all together

Once Warner retires obvs

Yeah I suppose with the WC over there they'll be playing Agar at 8 which also adds a bit of batting depth.

I suppose the first thing they need to work out is who captains the side. I thought I read Cummins indicated it wasn't a long term option for him.

I think the ODI side is fine tbh, they wiped the floor with NZ a month ago and with Finch gone they'll look a lot stronger

We do have a incumbency problem though. In that once you're "in" it's very hard to get out and quality players like Abbott just can't get a look in. Stoinis has been stuck with for way too long
