Haha not sure if you’re trolling but how would this even be a contest
Kallis is a better test cricketer than Sachin by a wider margin than Sachin > Kallis as a batsman but at least there would be some possibility for some interesting discourse, like the value added by batting all-rounders v a superior batsman, a player of Sachin's batting quality adding more to the top range of teams which don't need the bowling but a Kallis-type contributing more to the vast majority of teams etc. etc.

Kallis v. Sachin as a test batsman is a complete bore with very little possibility for any interesting discourse because of the simplifying narrowness of the question and the obviousness of the answer. It's like a McGrath v Pollock as a pure test bowler thread.

Actually I’ve changed my mind. Kallis averages 56 in SA and 58 in India. Tendulkar averages 46 in SA and 52 in India. No brainer.

How noble of the guy who started the poll to provide multiple vote option for a comparison thread between two players.

This is exactly what I was thinking

I would say Tendulkar was the better batsman , no amount of spin and sad storys is gonna change that ..Want a sad story ? Try having a billion people expecting great things from you since 16 years old in a country that treats your sport like a religion .Walking on to Test fields with legendary Test fast bowlers like Ajit Agarkar and Lakshmipathy Balaji trying to win test matches , that sounds fun !
Errrgh the "Oh no 1 billion people pressure" bullshit on display again. So ****ing what? He's a professional sportsman.

You think he's batting away in a test match thinking "Fmd I better keep this out, there's a billion nothing burgers back home who are supporting me"? Of course not. It's absurd. If that's the case then no country with a large population would produce sportspeople because the #pressure would just be too great. Such a junk argument. Seriously.

Well it explains why China has never produced a great cricketer at least.

It’s more about how it would **** with you off the field as well which could then translate into on field performance.

I mean it’s not a particularly strong point in his favour, also because how would you even begin to assess it’s impact, but to refuse to acknowledge it completely is quite strange.

Yeah it's definitely true, it just shouldn't really count for **** when rating him as a bat imo.

I think the fact that he did what he did in his career is a pretty definitive sign that it didn't have a negative impact on his batting, and if anything he thrived on it

Maybe stop ****ing paraphrasing and you'd get the point , I said sad storys should not be considered and gave an example of one Tendulkar endured if we were going down that route ...Cause I'm a Saffa and the excuses people were making for Kallis on this thread were flipping ridiculous...

"Oh it's in our nature to be conservative as South Africans ', 'Oh our top order was brittle' ... So ****ing what ? He's a professional sportsman. You think he's batting away thinking about what scores other batsmen put up ? Kallis put a high price on his wicket it didn't matter if Sir Don Bradman was batting at the other end , his approach would not change , even in the ****ing 438 game he was trying to get himself in, putting a high price on his wicket was what Kallis was all about.

and I'm also aware that SA re-entered cricket in 92 and it took them ten years to stabilize as a team and become consistently enough to play at the highest standard.
I had to do a double take to check you were talking about SA, and not SL.
The **** you on about man? SA were instantly among the better teams about (having Allan Donald and Fanie de Villiers along with Kepler Wessles etc helps) and by the mid 90s basically competing with Australia before Australia did their thing.

Tendulkar averages 46 against the SA attack at their home, not remotely comparable to the mix of attacks that Kallis faced there.

You ignore its impact because it's obvious he ignored its impact. The ability to compartmentalize is important to a lot of people performing at an elite level in any endeavour.

Which reminds me of the time as a junior solicitor when I told a partner I would endeavour to get something done by the next day, to which he said "This is Abbott Tout. We don't endeavour here. Endeavour is the name of a ****ing ship."
