Yeah. I don't think Kohli vs Ponting is a serious debate. Kohli vs Dravid would be. Root v Dravid is close too but I'd vote Dravid for now.Dravid by a narrow margin.

I used to think so given Dravid averaging in excess of 50 outside Asia and Ponting's India struggles, but I find now that Ponting has very few caveats outside failing in one country. Dravid vs Sangakkara is more debatable.Dravid and Ponting is a close debate too
What do you think happened? Too much pressure or his basic technique just wasn't made to compensate fading reflexes? Limited Overs isn't without it's positive effects but think he would be better off retiring from T20 and focusing on a few more Test hundreds. Probably doesn't have that in mind now after a good World Cup tbf.Kohli Vs Dravid isn't close for mostly the same reasons. Dravid's peak was twice as long in terms of both years and tests. Kohli fell off a cliff around the ~80 test mark which is rapidly early for modern ATGs.
That's because of a combination of workload and his decline coinciding with the worst batting era since the 50s.Kohli Vs Dravid isn't close for mostly the same reasons. Its one of the worst declines of all time though - it’s not a forgivable one. That's because of a combination of workload and his decline coinciding with the worst batting era since the 50s.
Only if you don't factor the era he has to bat inIts one of the worst declines of all time though - it’s not a forgivable one.
It just seemed mental. Pun intended. Happened overnight and he got stuck in a rut. Plus there was no respite in terms of conditions. What do you think happened? It is still legendarily bad. 3 years without a century, third worst average of any batsman in the world, failing to cash in at home against soft attacks. Not even old man Dravid when he kept getting bowled wasn't that bad. Even terminal declines are better statistically.Only if you don't factor the era he has to bat in
You need to add "IMO"Ponting is alone in that middle tier below Lara/Sachin but above Dravid, Kallis and Sanga.
In ODIs tooYeah in Tests surely this isn’t even a question
Do you have rocks in your head?Kohil is yesterday's man now and India should move forward and get him out the side
No, even factoring that in. It's a tough era to bat in. It's not mid-20s bad.Only if you don't factor the era he has to bat in
Yea he was absolutely imperious in that Adelaide 36/9 test before Rahane did a dumb thing. And then he was basically never the same.It just seemed mental. Pun intended. Happened overnight and he got stuck in a rut. Plus there was no respite in terms of conditions.
