I have thought Boucher was a **** for decades now, and was not happy about him getting a coaching job, but Andile's decline is not on Boucher.Anyone knows why Linde is suddenly off the radar? All I remember is Maharaj coming in for a series and then Linde going out of fashion slowly
Ironic that Bavuma wasn't the reason that South Africa lost the last two games though after being so poor for long. Phehlukwayo also looked good a few years ago, not Jansen level good but still decent enough to be a handy 5th bowler. Why has he regressed this badly since Boucher came in?
This mentality is the exact issue. You don't deserve anything, you earn it on the field.
Thing is though, I find South Africans dont like there players/captains/coaches say positive things at all. I remember back in the day with Smith, used to get flack a lot for daring to be positive. Him saying he felt his team deserved better is not a problem... effectively they did all the hard work in the tournament and took the eye of the ball. Stupid but **** happens. I am sure that the team put a lot of work in behind the scenes and feel bitterly disappointed.Thing is though, I find South Africans dont like there players/captains/coaches say positive things at all. Yes the whole 'low energy level" line is mystifyingHim saying he felt his team deserved better is not a problem... effectively they did all the hard work in the tournament and took the eye of the ball. Stupid but **** happens. I am sure that the team put a lot of work in behind the scenes and feel bitterly disappointed.
But the other reality is working hard is not enough... particularly when you are meant to be operating at the top of your field.
Honestly I do think there is a bit of 'doth protest too much' on how close the group are and how everybody is pulling together etc... they seem to constantly telling how supportive everybody is of each other. And considering the broader circumstances and results it just seems unlikely.. or pure lip service.Yes the whole 'low energy level" line is mystifying
Please clap.Yes the whole 'low energy level" line is mystifying
We also need to talk about Quinton De Kock..
The guy is absolutely hopeless in tournaments ! ...
In the ODI World Cup in 17 innings he averages 30.00 at a SR 85 with 0 hundreds
Compare that to his ODI career record - 45.57 , SR 96 - 17 ODI hundreds
In T20 World Cups he averages 24.12 @ 130.99 from 18 innings just 2 50's
T20 record overall he averages 32.18 from 76 innings @ 135 SR with 14 50's .
This WC he started well but then when we needed him the most he was nowhere ..
Last 3 innings vs India , Pakistan , Netherlands - 1, 0 , 13
I mean if you are supposed to the best bat , the opener ..The one you are counting on to be consistent it's not good enough...And with him retiring from Test cricket for the riches of T20 club cricket around the world... I really think he should go and do that on a permanent basis , I wouldn't have him in my team . I'd rather give the gloves to Stubbs .
I think this thinking is the exact thinking that has created the problems in SA cricket in the last 5 years...Dwaine Pretorius was also a big miss , he was a capable batsman and he added some unpredictability to the SA batting line up, he seemed to be the only bowling all rounder the SA brains trust could even think of promoting up the order , which is what you need when you don't have a strong tail ...
The failed investment of Phehlukwayo and Wiaan Mulder has cost SA big time..
I've been extremely disappointed with Mulder's output with the bat whenever he's put on an SA shirt ...He hasn't scored a single 50 in SA colours despite doing well in county cricket and domestic cricket..
I think it's best not to get personal and so defensive mateI think this thinking is the exact thinking that has created the problems in SA cricket in the last 5 years...
Hulk has doing nothing special enough to be considered anything but another jobbing cricketer and to think he is somehow going to may a difference to the SA team and or setup is sad. You complain about QDK (who quite clearly is one of the few truly gifted cricketers in the SA squad) and never ask why did he retire from Test cricket? You immediately make it about some sort of selfishness and greed by mentioning him playing different tournaments around the world like that is a bad thing. My opinion is he left the SA test environment because it is a toxic environment that he did not like. Your talk about a player like Mulder that in your opinion has failed but the reality is he has been treated like ****. He has been given an on and off occasional shot but never let to settle in the team. Compare him to someone like Green in Australia that did not start off with a bang... but was given game after game after game regardless. Sometimes it gives you Maxwell and M. Marsh and sometimes it gives you Green. But the support for the players is there. I see no support or honesty or real effort in SA cricket to identify manage and actually bring forward our most talented players. And this is partly because of the politics, but also because of the management and other players expecting their due.
I never once thought we would win this tournament, but it had nothing to do with the talent on the park. The end result of what happened has 100 % to do with internal and external leadership and man management. At the end of the day I feel like SA could have won this tournament. 100%! Because we have the talent. But we didn't give ourselves the best shot with the selections and the general nonsense that never seems to far away from the side.
People need to slow their roll with Brevis. He is a once-in-a-generation talent but he has still only passed 50 twice in pro-T20 cricket. The time has come to hand Brevis a free reign.
Interesting. We also need to talk about Quinton De Kock..
