Kane was fine. Kept us in the hunt. Main problem as usual is neesham. Rarely performs and because he cant bowl we have to pick 5 specialist bowlers. Meaning santner comes in at 7 when he should be 8 at the highest. We are a hsving to play a batsman short because Neesham isnt an all rounder anymore.

Also bring Milne is please or is he still injured?

Better not rain vs Ireland lol

On that note, I haven't been keeping track much but is Santner still in his batting boom which saw him bat 5 for ND last SS?

Kane was fine.
No he wasn't, and if you think he was you don't understand the T20 format.

We were chasing 9 an over from the get-go the other night, and with KW scoring at a run a ball means to chase 180 the remaining batsmen need to go at 12 per over. He's simply been a liability for our T20 side for a couple of years now bar that 1 innings in the last WC final, which we went on to lose anyway. Overseas teams I'm sure don't want to get him out these days, because it's better for them to bowl straight and keep him in & hence keep the run rate down.

That innings in the final is overrated anyway. NZ were going way way too slow for the amount of wickets they had in hand and the comfort they had at the crease in the first half of the innings and Kane's explosion only dragged them up to respectability when they really should have had a big, imposing score. Unsurprisingly it proved nowhere near enough to really defend in the dew.

So which club teams - IPL, bb or whatever - would beat these country teams? Is world cups really the pinnacle of t20?

Edit Is that already a thread?. I couldn't find it.

I reckon every franchise first XI would have 4+ players not good enough to make their national squads at all. They'd be worse than the top 6 teams for sure IMO - the best ones would probably give Sri Lanka a run for their money and beat Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, West Indies etc though.

Will be interesting to see the lineups for the UAE T20, because they can use nine overseas players per lineup (one more can be from any associate nation too, and there are enough good players from those to go around at a value of one per team). If there's lots of availability for it then some of those teams could end up really stacked.

IPL is the stongest comp and the Titans just won that. Probably not actually the best team on paper in the comp so maybe an unfair example but if you look at it, it definitely doesn't look in the same class as India or England.

Because, from memory, Gup got 25 off 32. Kane was 20 off 19 as I recall when Hazelwood should've caught him at fine leg. That's the issue a lot of us had. Kane blitzed his last 64 off 27 or something like that, which is a 1 in 50 sort of occurrence. The point was, when Kane was dropped, him and Gup shared 45 off 51. That's insane. No one other successful international T20 side plays that way. It won't win big games

Yeah absolutely. Not saying it was a bad innings, but it was like 60% a great innings and 40% abysmal. The problem is that you could easily claim that by the 10 over mark of the batting innings NZ were well, well behind the game if not close to lost - and yet they'd only lost one wicket.

Just had a look through the squads - will be a quality tournament but scheduling conflicts with the BBL, South African comp and some internationals have definitely made all the teams worse than the top six teams here too. This one probably the best I can muster:

1 Hales
2 Munro
3 Duckett
4 Billings
5 Rutherford
6 Hasaranga
7 Random UAE player
8 Curran
9 Howell
10 Cottrell
11 Lamichhane

Mumbai Indians in 2020 had perhaps the best ipl xi in history

1 De Kock
2 Rohit
3 SKY
4 Kishan
5 Hardik
6 Pollard
7 Krunal
8 Bumrah
9 Rahul Chahar
10 Boult
11 Malinga

This one could definitely challenge a few international sides

Reports are that finch failed his excercises today and didn't bat. I've wanted him out of the team for a bit, but will be sad to see a white ball great of his stature leave on this note.

Tbf sky wasn't in the absolute insane fork he's in now, was still just a (VERY) good T20 domestic bat. Pollard was also in crazy form so probably equals out.
Trust me sky was still extremely good then too I’d say this was the start of his turn into super aggressive batsman. He was the Mumbai Indians’ highest run scorer since 2018 even at that point and the only reason why he wasn’t selected in Indian side was due to questionable attitude

Ohh no sky was VERY good at the time, he just wasn't 40 @170 good, he was 30@140 good, which is still amazing.sorry for any confusion
