Mark Waugh in Odi's

Rohit Sharma the opener can't be ignored..
What a transformation , I mean his first 100 ODI matches he averaged 31 at a SR of 75 with 2 ODI hundreds to his name , career going nowhere, missed out on India's World Cup victory in 2011 ...Then Gambhir and Sehwag leave the scene. Dhoni says to Rohit Sharma go and open son ?..

Batting era or no batting era ...
The next 133 matches he proceeds to smash 27 ODI hundreds ..
99.9% of anyone who has played the ODI game doesn't know what it's like to score an ODI double hundred ...This man has 3 !
I agree. Up with Amla as 4th or 5th best ODI batsman of the 2010s.

Tendulkar was the best, but very little between Waugh, Anwar,Lara, Ganguly, and Jayasuriya.
Anwar and Ganguly were inferior to Waugh atleast by 10% . I have watched all of them bat live. Waugh was a very good ODI bat.
Waugh as an ODI bat is getting under rated just like Kapil Dev the Test bowler was in other thread. Just don't look at their statsguru average.

FAir enough but even given that little, in ODIs, I do think Mark Waugh shades it. I know I said Saeed Anwar was better earlier but I think upon reconsideration, Mark Waugh was better.

Its mainly coz how he switched roles from when he was the aggressor opening with Taylor and then changing to being the anchor when opening with Gilchrist. I feel he showed a bit more adaptability, which is one of the things that helps me rate Sachin very high too, esp. in ODIs.

Joe Root I think would have done well in the 90's era. His technique is impeccable and his ODI work sometimes flies under the radar , He has 16 ODI hundreds and is a World Cup winner . One of the most consistent players I've ever seen. Only thing stopping him was mentality after crossing 50 and now he's well and truly sorted that out especially in tests . Doesn't play a high Volume of ODIs so is easily forgotten.
