Same for the next game?

I can understand why it makes sense from a cost perspective to have games back to back at the same ground. Personally don't have an issue with it.
Yeah it's really not a good day for cricket in Sydney so I wouldn't be surprised if the next game had a similar fate. I haven't looked at the radar or anything but it's been terrible weather all day.

It makes a lot more sense when sense when you consider the sort of ODIs they win and how they do it. They thrive in old score type games on slow deck where 265 is par. They bowl okay in T20 sometimes but they just don't have the power batting.
Oh ****, whatever you do, don't say their decks are served up to suit them, you'll cause conniptions

Have a giggle at the silly IPL men who spend money on Finch, played for 9 teams and stunk it out for all of them.
Pretty sure it's Finch having the last laugh in those circs tbh, given he made so much cash out of it, and at the same time was largely awesome for his national side.

Yeah Finch and Maxwell (some good years but largely ****) have stunk up the IPL for years but made big bucks from it. Not sure why IPL teams have a fetish for mediocre australian domestic players like Sams too. Once in a while a good one like David shows up but by and large the players are dross. Only Warner's been great.

I can see why they would do it, he's probably one of the top 2 or 3 T20I batsman of all time and was a great in the BBL too

Maxwell is the one that's the biggest waste of money

It's just as well no one in Australia cares enough to watch it then.
As I'm reliably informed by TJB, no one in Australia watches any cricket outside of Australia. At best they tune in for the Ashes in England. That's why you have plonkers claiming Harris > Dev.

He's the Big Show though. I'm convinced as much thought goes into the PR of these IPL signings as it does what they'll actually produce, especially in those first few seasons.

Oh yeah if silly Indian rich people want to keep giving him money for doing SFA then why should he turn it down? He seems like an all round top bloke so the money isn't going to a bad home tbf.

Maxwell has had some hot spells in the IPL and as an "all rounder" always will fetch a fee. Its much more of a mixed bag with him then Finch who has been useless for the most part.

Why would you waste a couple of months' valuable viewing time on a domestic tournament from the SC played on postage stamps and pitches which don't bounce above waist height which allow finger spinners to prosper, when there's masculine pursuits like the various codes of football to watch at that time of year?

Seems to me like people who watch the IPL need to invest more time in watching Australian Rules and Rugby League. They'd be better for it.

Nothing wrong with any of that. Does explain the typically incorrect opinions on cricket that seem to origin from there though.

So I just put this game through the official DLS software and can confirm SA were screwed.

Had they started the run chase with just 5 overs to bat, their target score to win was 48

Had they taken the field after the rain interruption with 2 more overs to play, their target score would have been revised to 45

In either case, they had scored more than the target score. So to deny them 2 points on a technicality is pretty dumb.

Though you could argue it was unfair on the bowling team that conditions were so bad to play in that they couldn't even bowl 5 overs, and therefore the match shouldn't count.
This is the crux of it to me. The playing conditions were already manifestly unfair to the fielding side so talk about how SA were ahead on the DLS calculations is entirely beside the point because the game itself was no longer being played fairly. Obviously it's rough on SA because they "probably" would have won but it absolutely should be a null result, D/L + minimum overs or not.

Maxwell's been gun for RCB over the past 2 seasons and had his moments for KXIP aswell, not in the same class of terrible that finch is in IPL.

Yeah it's clear the umpires just felt SA were so far ahead that they were willing to go above and beyond to try and make sure they weren't dudded. Eventually it became untenable. If the game was closer or, dare I say it, between higher profile teams, they wouldn't have been bowling anywhere near as long.
