*Official* New Zealand domestic season 2022/23

Good luck to him. It's been a long time between drinks for him - must be about 4 years since he played for CD.
Yup, good fella with probably the worst injury luck of all time. I always bring it up whenever he’s mentioned but he was the most talented bowler of those legendary 2008/2010 Under 19 Zealand teams. He was 17 bowling mid 140 swinging the ball both ways. What could have been…

Exciting bowling attack for ND this game. Kuggs, Fisher, Wagner and Clarke. Will be interesting to see how much use Wagner gets here. It’ll be a good gauge to see how much he really has left in the tank.

Pretty useful fielder and batsman too. Back in the early 2010s, CD with Small, Milne and Wheeler - all debuting around the same time and all looked really good prospects. Only to be held back by injuries. It's easy to remember the 90s and the number of bowling prospects whose careers were ruined by injury, but that potential CD line-up was hit just as hard.

Yeah I'm biased but I thought Small would be a superstar for NZ. He had everything.

I don't know who was in charge of managing the Central bowlers through that period but I'd be hesitant to hire them again lol. I know Bond worked with Milne a bit but he would have been NZ bowling coach at the time.

A wild Ben Sears appeared in the 44th over of Wellington's bowling. I didn't even know he was playing.

Haven't seen much of Ashok though know he's highly rated. Looks like he's bowling quite flat... or is it just the reverse angle affecting my perspective?

Just hope he's not a young spinner that starts with flight and big turn, but then has to leave that behind and bowl flat and fast to make it at domestic level.
He bowls with a very high action so I think he’s more like your typical modern-day wrong-un bowler. Fairly quick, doesn’t bowl a big leg break.

I’m not putting too much store in this beyond a limp claim to fame, but I faced him at indoor cricket recently. He bowled surprisingly quickly and even with the indoor ball the leg break didn’t really spin.

CDG 35*(15) after Duffy ripped through the middle of ND's batting.

Hope Cooper gets the century this time too.

Is it possible to find statistics on injuries in the 90s and today? I think there are fewer injuries today. Or is it just the way it seems?

Wouldn't be any formal statistics. The 00's definitely was a bit of a black period for fast bowler fitness though. A lot of people think the Cricket Academy's focus on biomechanics was a major contributing factor to the injuries that plagued that era.

ND’s tail has wagged pretty well this morning. Another FC 50 for Kristan Clarke. Exciting prospect that’s for sure

Geez what happened to Wellington's batting yesterday afternoon?

Seven-fer for Duffy impressive, though needed support from the rest of Otago's bowlers.
Wickets for Fisher and Kristian Clarke this morning please.

Early days, but Duffy seems to be having one of his periodic stand-out seasons. Frustrating that he can't seem to put it together year after year.

Come on now. Just because Wellington's two most obvious candidates had a pleasant time of it in the first round doesn't mean that squad's exorcised all of the demons that've plagued them recently in Shield batting.

Wagner should be feeling pretty bad about what happened. He and Tickner (as SA-raised and Aussie-raised jocks) just might not be handling this push towards a more dorky Bill Gates-style cricket scene very well at all. The Beyond Meat Plunket Shield.

Tickner just needs to bowl corridor at offstump height 6 from 6 at his full pace and a lot of his struggles will disappear overnight.
