Mark Waugh was a better ODI bat though.

Re test batting I think Mark Waugh vs Andrew Jones or Ross Taylor would be a better comparison.

I think Gower is up with Pietersen as England's 2nd best middle order bat (behind Root obv) post Barrington/Cowdrey.

Yeah Gower, KP and Thorpe are hard to put in order. I get the impression the English younger generation don’t rate Gower very highly tbh but probably only basing that on a handful of opinions.
