South African Domestic 2022/23

Ok two things... they probably not using the stats as we see them on espn cricinfo etc... secondly it was quite obvious that they were not just using stats and using advise from local knowledge of players as well. You probably find lots of stats based work was done for the overseas players, and for team overall composition.

Yes, they definitely do, unless you believe e.g. Fojela is one of the best South African FC bowlers of the 21st century... https://www.espncricinfo.com/player/phaphama-fojela-45206 . Plenty of players with stats with huge caveats. Even look at vd Dussen, especially his List A strike rate... 10 lower than ODI, because for the first 10 years of his career it hovered around 70 (T20 is more reliable because for a lot of that period he wasn't even selected for domestic T20s)
Tbf everyone is aware overall fc stats in SA are misleading cause the second division was classified as fc as well during the franchise era. Any analyst worth his salt there would be looking at franchise/top level only.

There are always the odd player you need to look at with more detail. For those you have your scouts have a closer look.

But for the majority stats will be a good valuation.

Even as a bowler he's one of our most skilled, and he's been finishing well for the last two three years. If you're basing big money decisions on analysing stats instead of actually watching players play, you're going to come acropper...
There are probably only a handful of players that would have been a decent pick for the SA20 that didn't get picked up in the draft, Muthusamy, Van Biljon maybe, Jordan Hermann etc., but overall I don't think there were any glaring omissions and there were be injuries etc, Muthusamy could still play in the SA20.

Just how far behind Marco is Duan in terms of bowling development? He can certainly hit a long ball.

Getting back to the debate regarding muthasamy. After that great first game he has since then had innings of 14 from 16 vs dolphins and 13 from 18 vs titans.
So which version of him is the true reflection? The guy who scored at 200 or the guy who scored under a run a ball?

Muthusamy's batting is just a bonus, he's one of the best limited overs spinners in SA... Wait Mahima failed his fitness test, but von Berg passed?

This WP batting line-up looks a batter light again. Not sure why you don't play Jono Bird for Dawood; they already have 7 bowling options, and playing only 4 front-line batsmen (with Tywaku having almost no first div experience) and 3 all-rounders (two of which are also inexperienced) it seems a bit nutty.

And no most people don't seem to be aware that 2nd XI stats count towards FC, because I see all the time "Why was Conway never picked for SA?" despite having pretty much the worst franchise batting average of any non-bowler other than maybe Mosehle and Clyde Fortuin (with considerable opportunities.)

Roelofsen looks in good knick. Potential protea pick?
If he can find a way ahead of JMalan, De Kock, Rickelton. Top order logjam! I guess that's how Stubbs got in so much quicker, less competition in the middle order!

He has only completed 4 overs once in this competition. Not the thing you expect if he is one of your main bowlers.

Most people aren't professional analysts. They would be aware of the issues concerning first class stats. My reference was to analysts .

Cue incoming reactionary comments from IPL meatheads on social media calling for him to replace Temba Bavuma tomorrow

Pillay played a big hand in his knock aswell gave him as much strike as possible, this Ferreira bloke however has far too much ego to do the same thing ?
