Are the players meant to simply teleport once the ball hits the stumps? Turn into the Flash and cover the 20m required to get to the ball, which went in a yawning gap in the field, in an instant?
Having watched it again, so much this. The third man fielder would have to have been superhuman to have intercepted the ball. It went well wide of him. Importantly, and fatally for Zix's argument, he did start pursuing it immediately, so clearly was not lacking in 'game awareness'.

so lazy, why doesn't shaheen just grow a 20 foot long arm to stop that ball going past him

The initial error is on the fielding side for allowing the free hit in the first place by bowling a no ball, which in this match was dubious, and so I'm fine with the general imbalance free hits can offer. I like the power afforded in LOIs, and if there are revisions from this so be it.
Your 'power afforded in LOIs' is a meaningless concept.

Flukey stuff in cricket that involved no skills happens enough that I don't mind it even if on some occasions it hurts the teams I support.
I would bet my entire year's income you'd be sooking if the shoe was on the other foot.

Today though it was lazy to not cut down the runs scored considering it went for 3.
See post number 642.

There's also the fairly significant but more subtle benefit that in that particular situation, the batting side gets another advantage because it's functionally almost impossible to affect a run out at the striker's end as the stumps have already been broken and the bails removed, so effectively Karthik gets a few extra moments to make his ground if he's "short" as it takes longer to remove the stump. This was something I noticed live too but didn't comment on because it was so chaotic.

The irony ofc is that was actually the only good ball Nawaz bowled in the over. Perfect darted yorker.

Yeah, I thought the run out was OK.
Looked like the glove dislodged both bails before, or at worst, at the same time as the ball. I'd be giving benefit of doubt to the batter.

The free hit byes were hilarious. It would be common sense if the ball went dead as soon as the stump were struck, even in the case of a fielder getting a direct hit (because why penalise good fielding), but the ball staying live is frankly a lot more entertaining.

Yeah I've long been in favour of this.

No difference between taking runs after getting bowled on free hit, taking runs after getting caught on boundary on free hit , taking runs after ball deflected on hitting stumps on a very good throw.

You mean parochial. If the shoe was on the other foot...

I suppose we can drag up the Stokes deflection, to be frank my sympathies have always lain with NZ on that one.
The Stokes deflection makes me irrationally mad and I know it is for no reason. I just have the conspiracy theory in my head that he did it on purpose even though that defies all logic.

To be clear I don't think that decided the game. You'd have backed Kohli to win the game with 5 off 2 required.

Clutch performances were in t20I:

Both were in the last wc, and were the reason pak mad the semi's last WC in the first place. Not saying he should be in the team.

Read on twitter he has only 5 sixes in 15 international matches this year, the role of a slogger does mean occasional failure but that is desperate stuff. It's a shame that the bowlers who can bang a little such as Hasan, Imad and Ashraf can't be picked for various reasons because the lower order needs power.

This team with a peak Afridi would be amazing.

I think it is clear that Pakistan were screwed here by the umpiring. Pakistan are still number two favourites behind England to win the whole thing but I will still enjoy today's victory.

Re: running off bowled. It is stupid but so much in cricket is stupid

Also that was not a no-ball. Also Axar wasn't out. Also why is Spider Cam exists. Also Ashwin and Axar are not good enough spinners for India here. Also King Kohli - all is forgiven.

I think the deciding moment was when the team was decided. While I can forgive misreading a pitch, only five bowlers and a specialist no. 8 who's scored **** all all year (I just looked up his domestic stats. Dire) left them with a finer margin for error than they should have.

Wow so amazingly it seems like this happened just three days ago in the WBBL - except in that case it went for four, so it wasn't even a question of the batsman running or not. Yeah that rule needs changing, that's just four free runs to the batting team through absolutely no fault of the fielding side and no actual skill on the batting side:

The charitable reading is that they expected a traditional, slow-ish MCG pitch and not the quick and spicy one that actually got rolled out which meant death to spinners (save Shadab), though tbh that seems to be increasingly the norm now that the (new?) curator there is actually competent and not rolling out shithouse excuses regarding soil for why he can't prepare a competent cricket pitch. No excuses for not giving them other bowling options though.

I think after today heartbreak Pakistan is vulnerable to lolistan performance against a tricky side like Zim
