Australian Domestic Season 2022-23

Personally I love it how seemingly once every season they drag Hobson out of his accounting job and back into high level cricket

Long may this tradition continue

Great to see Young Australian Cricketer of the Year and future test opener Tim Ward grind out a tough last hour and remain not out overnight.

Fanning dropped for D'a'r'c'y S'h'o'r't, not so keen on that one myself. Thought he batted pretty well in the first game, seems harsh especially as I can't see Short's bowling being very much of a factor here

I thought Fanning looked terrible tbh. Played and missed nearly 1 in 5 balls he faced. Not great to drop your young player after 1 game though

Yeah picking Short makes some sense when he's going to be one of the first five bowlers or at least the best spinner, but he's sixth (hell maybe even seventh if they give Cartwright a trundle) bowler here and Rocchiccioli is playing so he's been picked as a specialist #7 bat, which is silly. I would've stuck with Fanning for longer than one game but if they really didn't think he was up to it I'd suggest Turner ahead of Short on batting alone too.

Wait, I've got it, they should've picked the in form man Nick Hobson.

Decent session for Tassie as Young Cricketer of the Year Tim Ward goes to lunch on 59 not out with Tassie 3-105 in pursuit of SA's daunting first innings total on the always bowler-friendly Adelaide Oval.

SA missed a trick bowling all seam before lunch. Manenti's first over of the day 40 minutes after lunch shows a fair lack of initiative imo.

Who would CW bring in if one of the Test openers was injured? Assume for now that Pucovski wouldn't be considered yet.

I'd probably go with Whiteman but good arguments could be made for Hunt, Street (despite Queensland selectors not agreeing) and Ward (especially if he makes this a big one).

We'd probably just end up with Harris but it's a nice thought experiment anyway.

Hunt, harris and renshaw were the 3 openers picked for the Aus A tour of sri lanka earlier this year. Would assume the pecking order bar pucovski is Harris>Hunt>>Renshaw>>Whiteman/Street.

Street's treatment recently has been..... odd. Made a 100 vs the lions for Aus-A, then got ignored for the Aus-A tour of sri lanka and now isn't even making the bulls shield squad despite the fact that he's made two daddy hundreds in the queensland premier cricket comp this season.

Yeah I think that's the actual pecking order for sure but CW's thoughts could be more interesting given how close they all are. Who would you pick?
