how can i apply for a bowling position in the indian team. i can bowl 12 overs at a stretch and rest assured i will be economical than the current lot. i can bat better than chahal, walk and bowl faster than harshal, field better than siraj.

That's the risk with DK especially against spin. Makes sense for him to just bat after 15 overs so that he doesn't do anything daft of that nature

2016 T20 WC Darren Sammy won basically as specialist captain/mascot.

Edit: Just looked up his tournament stats because I remembered them being funny:

Batting: 8 runs total for thrice out. (SR 61.53; avg 2.66).
Bowling: 3 overs all tournament, which went at more than 10 an over (combined figures of 1/31).
At least he was hidden though. Bavuma sucks the soul out of the opening stand.

Whatever it takes!!!
A larger point I have wanted to make for a while now -

Folks like Harsha and other comms go on and on about how specialized the T20 game is getting. The examples given are usually DK and Harshal and how they bring a very specific skillset which really only makes sense in the 20 over format.

The catch here is, that makes sense over a home and away league where you have a certain level of forecastability, a knowledge of a certain number of games in certain conditions etc. But in a world tournament and esp. if it is in the KO stages, you need adaptability and versatility a lot more than specialization and specifications. Stoinis always opens in the BBL, but he rediscovered himself as a finisher and played a vital role in Aus winning the last WC. Same with Wade.

I would rather choose the players and then ensure they develop their skills across all stages of the game then go down to this level of specialization. In a way, I am happy DK came out to bat in the PP and showed he can do that job pretty well too.

I am also happy we now know for sure Siraj is a bit crap in LO formats and his fielding can be a game-loser in itself. Its so silly coz he is athletic and he has good hands and ball sense, but seems to be completely empty in his head while fielding. Literally has no idea what he is doing half the time.

Chahar for Bumrah, maybe Shami for Bhuvi if Bhuvi is not pulling through fit at the NCA. Also DK at 6 unless its really needed for the leftie to bat above him. It made sense to bat Jaddu above DK in most conditions but Axar is nowhere near the level of Jaddu as a bat, even in this format. We should just let these guys develop the skills needed to bowl in all stages of the game. Harshal and Jaddu are the worst culprits there coz they never bowl in the PP.

In an ideal world DK will be coming to bat in the last five overs if he is the number 6 so that should be fine

Not sure what Harsha the madman said but to me the three formats are becoming very different slowly and we might see more and more specialized squads for all three in the future. This will also mean that the Kohli’s and Azam’s who have achieved mastery in all three formats will be rated very highly in this future

I wondered why Bishnoi bowled out despite getting absolutely smashed, but I suppose Dhawan had little choice when the sixth best bowler in the lineup was probably himself.

Wtf is up fielding these days? Another terrible outing for India. Some weird global phenomenon going on imo.

Genius squad and team selection to go for five bowlers strategy when it has worked zero times recently

yep india slipping into darker times like the 90s. vomit level bowling complimented by vomit level fielding. It is not like India ever hit a performance peak taller than other countries. their best form has been second or third best even with their best squad. i dont ever wanna see ruturaj in Indian colors same goes for chahal and bhuvi. south africa carrying the momentum from the last t20 to the ODIs. predict a series loss for India here. ill be happy if im proven wrong.
