Bavuma averages 45 from 19 ODIs with a strike rate of 82. Take away his matches against Ireland and 15 matches, averaging 43 with a strike rate of 82. So no real minnow bashing going on there.

And in T20s before he became captain he averaged 36 with a strike rate of 133. Those are very respectable figures, but they're only from 8 matches, and maybe it's looking like his appointment as captain was premature because his record as captain is 19 matches, averaging 20 with a strike rate of 108.
Ja, I think Bavuma weakens the T20 side. Deserves his spot in ODIs, and probably our most solid Test bat at the moment but he's a liability in T20Is right now.

Let Miller skip in the WC and have this as our Top Six:

Reeza
QDK
Rossouw
Markram
Miller
Stubbs

classic indian bowling making a match out of a dead game. miller making a meal out of the junk we threw at him. if you cannot pitch the ball what difference does it make about who bowls. a second grader with a candy as the fee serves the same purpose as the expensive investments in our "world class" bowlers.

Bavuma will be handy in a subcontinental odi world cup next year especially if Malan is going to be the opener with that non existent spin game of his. It is probably too late to change captains this close to the world cup and I recall only Sri Lanka ever doing it back in 2014 which they also happened to win funnily enough but post the world cup give the captaincy to Markram in t20i and groom him for taking over in odis too should be the plan

Is this the game where Indian selectors will choose Bumrah's replacement based on how Siraj and Umesh perform?

If so, damn! Umesh gets a wicket first ball.

I presume they have decided this is the top 6 and want to give them as much middle time as possible.
I think it was fair to give Bavuma a run since he's just back from injury, but his lack of runs in the format is becoming a real problem. He might bring a lot to the table as captain, but you can't pick him purely for that.

Look, I like Bavuma but he's not Mike Brearley.

2016 T20 WC Darren Sammy won basically as specialist captain/mascot.

Edit: Just looked up his tournament stats because I remembered them being funny:

Batting: 8 runs total for thrice out. (SR 61.53; avg 2.66).
Bowling: 3 overs all tournament, which went at more than 10 an over (combined figures of 1/31).

Overall I like the look of this team. Nearly every batter can strike at 200 and solid bowling lineup with options for all conditions.
