Stoinis's spot in the t20I team going back 1-2 years has been in the middle order. He's batted there in every game he's played since the england tour in 2020. In t20 leagues his role has been middle order since he made runs there for Delhi in the 2020 IPL season. He moved up to opening for the stars at the start of the BBL season but was batting 4/5 by the end of the season.
He's been opening for the Stars for years. But that's not really the point. Him, Green and Marsh* are 3 guys with nearly identical roles and you probably can't fit all 3 unless they go with only 3 specialist bowlers.

*Marsh has locked in the no.3 spot for now though

There all pace bowling all-rounders, but they fill different positions in the batting order, no? Marsh is THE #3, Stoinis is a middle order finisher and green is an opener. Opening and batting middle order in t20 are completely different jobs, and middle order is WAY harder than opening. It's why leagues all over the world value players like david so much.

What have we just been talking about? Green being an opener is less than a week old. These things change very often. Wade, Maxwell, Inglis have all been openers too. It's a pretty fluid thing in the medium to long-term.

I think it's pretty set in stone that Finch and Warner will open and Marsh will bat 3. If Green were to play (if it's even possible) it will be in the same role as Stoinis

Never opened in his professional career and just decides to whack a 19 ball 50 and a 20 ball 50 vs a very good bowling attack. Freak.

So
1.Warner (C)?
2.Green
3.Marsh/Smith
4.Maxwell
5.Stoinis
6.David/inglis/Smith
7.Wade
8.Ellis/Cummins
9Zampa
10.Statc
11.Haze

Is our best team going into the WC right? Maxwell's form is also a bit troublesome, had a poor t20 WC last year and hasn't done much since.

Sams at 8 may prove useful here, shocking start from the middle order after the start green gave us, either way.
