*Official* Australia in India (T20)

Cummins often gets slapped in T20s though. Would almost rather they play an extra batsman and make 8 overs out of Green, Maxwell & Marsh

I'm not convinced those 3 guys would be that much less effective with the ball than Cummins in T20s
Think there is enough batting with Wade being in red hot form. Certainly for Aust wickets.

Cummins is not half of the bowler in t20s or limited overs cricket in general compared to tests but he can adopt better than most and could make a difference (remember the penultimate over vs Pak in the semi last year or even today when he started bowling cutters to the wicket)

David’s actually not been in the best of form, so his debut is kinda untimely. He also has a clear weakness against quality spin.

I don’t think he’s a very good all round batsman but for his niche role I think he’ll do a pretty decent job because not every team has unplayable bowlers and not all of them bowl well all the time.

He’ll look out of his depth more regularly than some others though for sure.

Who would you rather have in the current Aust side? David or Smith?

Whatever it takes!!!

If you are gonna play Green then I will play Smith with him. If you are gonna play Stoinis, I think David should be picked with him. Coz Stoinis can play the repair batsman role, even if he is obviously not of the quality of Smith.

Is there any way Green can be shoe horned into the squad for the WC? Would have bike over Stoinis in a heartbeat

Yeah tbh it’s difficult to find room for everyone and Stoinis, much as I don’t really rate him, did the business in some big games at the last WC

Green averaged about 9 with the bat in all T20 cricket when they named the squad. I don't rate Stoinis at all but it wasn't really as insane at the time as it seems now.
Well yeah it's understandable when there are so many ARs around and Green hasn't played much T20 before the WC but using his average (in a handful of games) as a reason to justify the insanity isn't fair considering he has transitioned into other two formats of the game well and could do well using that confidence in a format that would suit his big hitting.

PEWS wasn't "justifying insanity", just pointing out why not selecting him originally wasn't crazy. It was sensible even.

At this point though it really looks like he needs to play. He's a lot better than David for example on batting alone, then you get his bowling and fielding in addition

Afaik there's nothing in the rules that says you can't change your squad

You just wouldn't because it's a dick move to remove someone when not injured.

It has happened in the past, usually by just adding another guy so the squad is bigger but with ICC tournaments that might be against the limits on squad numbers

People really need to stop dissing stoinis the t20 cricketer because of his ODI stints. He averages 30+ @140+ batting in the middle order in t20I and played multiple clutch knocks last t20 WC. Green is a once is a generation cricketer but he's not half the t20 player stoinis is atm.

Pretty sure there is. Unless there is an injury or some other unavoidable reason someone can't make it, you cant change your squad. Its why the teams are taking reserves with them too.

It's form-based. Sure Stoinis has preformed well in T20s, but his form has been terrible. You can gather that from ODIs. You don't have to see them both play a dozen T20s together to come to the (reasonable) conclusion that Green would be better than Stoinis at this point in time.

Except stoinis has been trash in ODI's since the 2019 WC and done well in t20 leagues across the world and t20I for Australia in that period fairly consistently? Stoinis and green are also competing for different spots, middle order bats who can do what stoinis/wade do are a lot more valuable than openers in the format.

No they're not lol. Green only opened for first time less than a week ago. And Stoinis has been an opener for Aus before and virtually always is in the T20 leagues. They're competing for as close to the same spot as you possibly could be: Big hitting bat who can bowl a few overs of seam-up.

If Green plays it will probably be in the middle-order anyway

Stoinis's spot in the t20I team going back 1-2 years has been in the middle order. He's batted there in every game he's played since the england tour in 2020. In t20 leagues his role has been middle order since he made runs there for Delhi in the 2020 IPL season. He moved up to opening for the stars at the start of the BBL season but was batting 4/5 by the end of the season.
