Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Harsh reality is that Finch was only selected today for sentimental reasons

Shouldn’t be anywhere near the team

Southee averages 40 with the ball since the 2015 World Cup, which is essentially half his career in length. Given he’s 33 I don’t know why he hasn’t been given the Anderson, Broad treatment and just left for test cricket.
Can’t emphasise this enough. There was a 4+ year period in the prime of Southee’s career where he was just an appallingly bad ODI bowler, to the point where he had to be dropped despite being given an illogically large number of chances. He only stayed in the side for so long in the first place because he’s “A Good Bowler” and there was a complete refusal to accept that a good bowler could be no good at ODIs.

And now he is back in the side because…we didn’t play any ODIs for 3 years and they’re hoping we forget that he was dropped.

Yeah took ages for selectors to reluctantly make the correct call that Henry should be preferred to Southee in ODIs, because he takes wickets up front. Made it finally... but if there's a spot free in the side then Southee is always just around. Great test bowler for us of course, and occasionally adequate T20 bowler, but would prefer others in ODIs.

Would've loved to see Sears today purely for the fun factor.

Allen (especially) and Phillips good additions - please make more than 20 each so there's no ready-made excuse to leave you out next time.

Edit: Tbh can see Hazelwood + Starc eating Allen for lunch and Phillips stifled without being offered width, but there's no other way they're going to learn to face top quality bowling, and they're replacing batters that seriously struggle anyway.

Boult is just in amazing form, which makes his rejection of the NZ contract especially galling. Has turned himself into one of the world's best ODI/T20 bowlers and just had his best test series in ages.

Cause Aus usually field the back up team in JAMODIs v NZ
Not for Bond at least, his career was against almost entirely full strength Aus sides: the 02 and 07 World Series comps, the 03 and 07 world cups, the 02, 06 and 09 champions trophy’s and a full strength tour by Aus in 10. Just a couple CH games in 07 against a weakened Aus side.

TJB was pretty much trolling but yeah….even with Boult, he’s taken a 5-for and a hattrick in separate World Cup games, plus this series against a full strength top order, so certainly no lack of success against a strong Aus team

So this series has proved to me I always suspected that it's pitches that have become more friendly and not that the batsmen have suddenly started taking more risks in LOI hence the bigger scores. Makes Viv stats really much more staggering for the pitches he batted on.
