*Official* English Football Season 2022/23

GIMH

Norwood's on Fire
GIMH's lad Nevitt tucked one away against the Geordies. He might be satisfied with that.
Aye satisfied indeed. Gutted to lose because I hate losing, but we put a good fight up and scoring to take the lead was such a good moment.

I’m no stranger to TRFC pushing Newcastle in tight cup ties but the times it happened in my youth (there were three - plus a 6-6 draw followed by us winning on penalties in the Zenith Data Systems Cup) we did it as a Championship (in new money) side so to do it from the basement was some going.

I remember that 6-6 draw.

Taking the lead against a big team when you are in league 1 or 2 is an amazing feeling. James Collins scored at Arsenal, we lost but we lead there for a decent amount of time. Great memories.

I was somewhat torn when Colchester defeated Spurs on penalties in the EFL Cup in 2019. It was a pretty reasonable Tottenham line up for the League Cup, but Tottenham bossed the game and it was otherwise 0 - 0, so hardly Ronnie Radford levels of satisfaction.

They have had a remarkable year, I just think they are weaker this season than last and this was so impressive given the first leg result.
Our squad is much stronger this season. Tilman alone is a massive upgrade on anything we had in an attacking sense from midfield.

Morelos going off the rails again must be a complete disaster though, no?
Nah. We didn't have him at the business end of last season due to injury; we signed Čolak in summer who's settled and hit the ground running and who is a definite upgrade on Morelos finishing wise.

We've still got Kemar Roofe as well who was far more important in our title winning season. As much as I love Alfie, he doesn't score nearly enough goals domestically.

I miss Kemar Roofe :sadwalk:

Pretty happy with that draw in all honesty.

Liverpool would have been really interesting last year with Gerrard in charge.

Just a reminder to you all that the whites and some geordies are entertaining your screens tonight

Given the gulf and how we’ve both started the season I’ll take a better result than we got against Man U in 2020 as a win. Decent side they’ve put out too
The Tranmere goal was a thing of beauty. They played really well imo.

Not sure that should really count anyway if it's the Conference League which has only been going for 5 minutes. Glentoran got to the 2nd Round of the European Cup in the early 80s, only just losing on aggregate to CSKA Sofia. I'd say that's about as good an achievement as the Conference League. According to Wikipedia, Linfield got to the European Cup Quarter Final (also losing narrowly to CSKA Sofia as it happens) which must be a better achievement than if they'd beaten this Latvian team to get through to a pointless league stage of a [largely] pointless tournament.

That counter-attack, before the one that caused the own-goal, has to be the most glacial I have ever seen in a professional football match
Was my thought when I saw the clip, the guy carrying the ball absolutely ****s the counter attack.

Just watched Celtic beat Dundee United 9-0. Was desperate to see a tenth as I've never seen one in club football. Alas the ref took pity on them and only added on a minute of stoppage time (after a 5 goal second half).

Ange Postecoglou's Celtic
