not that this ought to ever have been much doubt but i'm so happy over the past few years to see how rabada has consolidated himself as a true leader of this attack

he wasn't a flash in the pan, he wasn't a byproduct of having steyn-vern-morkel-abbott and so on around him, he's really just an all round exemplary fast bowler in his own right and maybe aside from king *** the premier quick in the world of this era

This match so far proof of how much SA have improved over the last year. Bazball or not it's hard to see SA letting England off the hook here.
Going to need plenty of rain in London in the next few days otherwise it's 1st taste of defeat for Baz coming up.

I'd like to see Leach at least have a bowl before completely writing him off.

And I hope that Potts isn't banished for the rest of the day because of one expensive spell. It shouldn't be a surprise that they're all rusty given the complete lack of red ball cricket since the India test.

If England are rusty at red ball, then SA should be even rustier, so no excuse there.
The real excuse should be that their opening bats are hopeless, and that relying on Joe all the time isn't going to always work out.

Alex Lees’ batting has started to remind me of my batting. Plonking his front foot down and hoping for the best. His footwork looks hurried against medium pace so might be funny watching him bat against Nortje.

This is true. tbh I was thinking about the bowling, although I appreciate that wasn't 100% obvious. And it's not an excuse anyway; no-one's denying that SA have completely out-bowled England so far. Just developing my comment that Potts shouldn't be written off after one poor spell.

My other thought is that I enjoy seeing a cricketer named after a famous footballer or football team. Not enough of that sort of thing imo.
