There's two schools of thought on that. Wayne Bennett was a massive one for putting the team ahead of the player, and felt you had to be ruthless sometimes with guys who might have 'earned' the right to go on a bit longer but were taking a spot of someone who could contribute more or build experience/both.

I felt that way with Ross, although he vindicated the position with his knock in the WTC final. I felt he was holding Will Young out of the 4 spot (which he never took, but should've) but Young wouldn't have done what Ross did in that 4th innings.
I'm all for young ones, absolutely. If they're good enough they should be in there particularly if it's a given they're going to play for NZ for good number of years. Wearing them out in domestic cricket for years definitely doesn't help. It's not that hard to pick that kind of players and they don't come in large numbers.

As for the legends of the game I'd let them figure when to stop playing. Their experiences come in super handy in crucial games and keep them as long as they're fit enough to perform.

I have a problem with stop gap sort of players getting longer rope at the cost of the experienced and the good young players.

I don't get why Kane even on this surface wouldn't bowl out Santner and Bracewell. Either he relies on Southee and Trent or doesn't rate our spinners. Probably both. He did that in the last t20 as well
Yes, both for sure.

I have to admit, I didn’t expect a comprehensive victory like this.

Bowlers win you championships
Didn’t expect it either, but NZ in recent times have been slow to adapt to varying conditions, and have been particularly unimaginative with the ball.

Hosein is just the sort of bowler who’s made life difficult for them - wouldn’t be surprised if he has a great series. Joseph also played the role of a strike bowler to perfection. As preparation for a SC World Cup, not a bad thing to have wickets like these.

I see Alzarri and Akheil continue to at least offer two world class white ball bowling options for us. It's nice to have two reliable bowlers.

I have to say Cariah and Sinclair surprised me with their skill and accuracy. I hope that wasn't a one off.

This series is vital for us so I'll take those 10 points any day.

Replacing Ferguson with Neesham, hmm. Need a big score here with that bowling attack.

Fair to say Conway’s having a difficult second season. Those inside edges are letting him down. Also, WTF was that Latham. Poor from someone who opens in the longer form.

With the misfiring top order, hope Allen sees he has a chance and takes it.

Great to see the bounce that Joseph and Holder are getting. Living up to the reputation of this ground.

Hosein bowling really well. Bit of an education here for Allen having to battle through this. You feel Ajaz would have enjoyed bowling here, too bad NZ aren’t looking at him as a white ball option.

If Allen can go big here he'll learn a lot from it (more than just blasting 30 off 20). We certainly bat deep (Macewell 8) so could get a defendable score.
